Hey guys, does anyone know if a decent locksmith in south OC that does automotive keys?

Nearly all the places I've called in the area are mobile services that cost an arm and a leg ($120-150 minimum charges per key) and are all mobile-only services. I'm looking for a shop that can cut (and cut only, not program) some Tacoma keys for a decent price. I'd rather go to a brick and mortar location, instead of a mobile service since all the mobile services seem to have outrageous pricing.

I have blanks that I can program myself, just need them cut.

Let me know if anyone has any suggestions! Thanks!

You can get keys cut at your local Toyota dealer for like 30 a key I don’t think you can bring your own key though. They will sell them to you as long as your the owner obviously.

I brought my own key to Crown Toyota and they cut it for me. Charged me like $20 to retrieve my key code from corporate but printed that out and gave it to me and said any other key would now just be complimentary as long as I brought them the key code.

I tried the automotive center at Walmart--and they can physically cut the key just fine, they won't cut a key unless you buy it from them. :frusty:

Sounds like I might be giving a local dealership a call--thanks for the input so far guys.

Just following up on this in case anyone else is in my situation.

I went to the dealership in San Juan Capistrano. I called ahead and got them to do $10 to cut two keys (I already had the blanks).

All they needed was the VIN and proof of ownership.

I'm about to program them myself and I'll be good to go.

It's possible. I'm still trying to run down the exact procedure for the stock-style keys I just got.

The first time I tried the software wouldn't run correctly and I didn't have much time to play with it at the time. I've done some more research since then and am going to try again in a few days when I have some free time. Hopefully I'll be up and running soon.

I basically followed what is described in this thread.
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...-programmed-and-coded-for-2015-tacoma.690027/

The software is called "Techstream". The cable in that thread includes a copy of that software when you order it (software version 14.30.023). It took approximately 10 minutes (including setting everything up) to program both.
