So, I accessed my 4x4 computer and noticed that the wires look a little different than this diagram (or maybe I don't know what I am looking at. I am not much of an electrical guy. I have six wires going into my connector. The diagram has 5. Some help would be great.

And yes I definitely have an e locker. I am just unsure of myself. Also can someone please verify that you ground the wire coming out of the connector, and not the wire coming out of the bunch of wires that is taped together. This is what I have.

Hey guys i am a newbie here sorta been browsing the forums for a while just never got an account. My question is when did the diff lock become standard on these trucks? I am looking at a 2000 taco regular cab 4x4 with a 2.4 and 5 speed. thanks

Welcome to TW, there is a world of info here. I believe that 4x4 reg cabs only came in 2.7L and its got to be a trd off road edition to have the locker. Unless if was a special order truck from the manufacture.

I understand what wire I am supposed to cut, but if you look at my wiring harness I have 6 wires and the diagram up above has 5. I was wondering if anyone had the same harness as I do. If so do I still cut the gray wire. I know some people cut a diff color wire.
Just don't wanna jack something up.

Did it. Works great. Nice write-up.

Anyone who reads this: Make sure you splice and ground the grey wire on the side connected to the plug that goes into the 4wd computer. Not sure if people were clear bout that earlier.

Did the mod today. I should of timed it but i think it took less than 5 minutes! I couldn't be happier! I have a 2000 and it was the grey wire! Anyone who is not sure should do it! This is practically a free mod that really changes the truck! Lets just be responsible with that rear end!

the abs light will come on with the locked rear-end no mater what. it was the same way before hand you just didn't notice it.

i dunno why its programed like that but who needs abs off road anyhow?

I did this mod a while ago... I'd advise using a butt connector or soldering the extension wire to the gray wire coming out of the harness plug that goes to the 4x4 computer. Just taping the wires together doesn't guarantee a good connection and could cause problems.

Now... I do know that, you can not engage nor disengage the locker unless you are going under 5 MPH, the light will just blink rapidly until you slow the hell down. :D ABS IS disabled when it is engaged (for obvious reasons, at least obvious to me.) And the truck is a mother****er to get stuck when she's locked... hehe
