    Ok….. so I feel like I should explain…..

I don’t cook, in fact, I suck at it. There are a few things my family claims I do well, but other than that, I prefer to stay out of the kitchen:anonymous: About 6 weeks ago, I finally got an air fryer and I have cooked more since then than my whole 50 years of life combined. I’m kind of enjoying it and I never thought I’d say that about anything cooking. I’m still learning and I have messed up plenty, but I keep going:D So far… no one has begged me to “For the love of God woman, please stop!!” Well, not to my face yet anyway. Last year, my boy sent us an infra red portable grill to take on the boat. I totally forgot about it until last weekend. Used it for the first time without realizing it was infrared…. Had to google what to do with it. What’s with all of this “rub it in oil to season it then burn it for 15 minutes” stuff?? Do I have to do that every time after use??

Given all of ⬆️ that…. You still want me here? :D

Yes, do it. That seasons the grill and makes the food taste better. It really does. I recommend using bacon grease, but that would require you to...cook bacon.

    Ohh…. 2 problems here

    1-cooking…. Enough said
    2- not a huge fan of bacon:crapstorm:

Did I ruin anything by using it totally new? The rack is now discolored and I had a hard time cleaning it.

Its basically to just burn off any coatings that may be on the new grill. Run it on high for around 30 minutes then hit it with oil or grease, then cover the grill with something cheap like onions or potatoes and cook those for a little bit.

Do that before each use or just the next time? Think it’s getting used next weekend so I need to know this stuff and prepare.

Just the first time on the brand new grill, if you didn't do it not the end of the world. But yeah i would wipe a little oil on the grates before each use.

Yes you're welcome! And there's a lot of information in the air fryer thread too! You might be surprised by what you can do.

You might have to work on that bacon thing tho... kinda treasonous to some people!

Haha..I got an air fryer for Xmas 2020. Quarantine chef'd my way thru some pretty good recipes! No shame in an air fryer. Unless you rep it with a sticker on your Tacoma

Learning to cook has helped me cope with a lot of things. A LOT. You will struggle, you will fail, but you will come out on top if you stick with it. Practice doesn’t make perfect, persistence does.

The fact that you’re willing to try/improve is such a massive step. Good on you! I can’t speak to infrared cookers or air fryers, but I fully support you challenging yourself.

Keep it up, I’ll be seeing you on television soon!

By the way...in the future, ALWAYS wash the inside of the grill BEFORE you use it. No sense in baking on the petroleum-base metal preservation coating from the factory. Something like Dawn dishwashing detergent. Scrub it good with a green 3M scrubbing pad or equivalent. Rinse, rinse AGAIN, let dry, then season it.

I dunno. You struck me for some reason as one who would know their way around the kitchen quite well. Don’t know why I thought that. Just guessed. :notsure:
