If you don't draw blood, you're doing it wrong!
I recently swapped to an ARB bumper b/c it was too good to pass-up ($200, for real). The only reason I switched was to get a better approach angle up front - my bumper-skin was getting badly scratched up on the underside.

The winch mount held up great! I have done 10+ pulls with it, some of which were very hard (inclines, declines, side-pulls etc.). There is some comsetic wear on the mount where it smacked on rocks or where the plastic from the bumper skin was rubbing, but other than that it's good to go!

Thanks bud. I am hoping to find an extra aluminum bumper piece laying around, already got a quote for the welding to be done.

Keep an eye out for local members in your area that just got (or are getting) a new bumper. I'm sure they would be willing to part with their OEM one for cheap (or free). Let me know if you have any other questions if/when you are getting it built.

Good luck man, I'm sure you will be pleased with it!

*EDIT* - Where are you located? I can help try to source one for you...

why you guys gotta make me spend so much money!!

You think the added weight of the winch will noticeably drop my front end without having a lift? Its already leaning a bit forward with the TSB leafs on the back and stock up front.

It depends on a few different factors, but you will likely see sag if you don't beef up the front suspension. If you plan on running a winch, I would recommend at least throwing some better shocks/coils in there for sure.

    1) How do you plan on mounting the winch?
    a) Aftermarket winch bumper: These weigh-in anywhere from 90lbs-180lbs. Yes, you will definitely need to beef-up the suspension
    b) Hidden Winch Mount: Depending on what material (Steel vs Aluminum), you will likely need to beef-up the suspension

    2) What type of winch and line do you plan on running?
    a) 8,000lbs Winch or higher: Weigh-in about 65+lbs, and will cause some sagging
    b) Steel vs Syn. Line: steel weighs-in about 20-30lbs heavier than synthetic.

    3) Do you plan on adding any addtl. armor up front?
    a) IFS Skids: weigh between 40-55lbs, depending on material/thickness (3/16" or 1/4" steel, 1/4 aluminum)
    b) Mid Skids: also weigh between 40-55lbs, depending on material/thickness (3/16" or 1/4" steel, 1/4 aluminum)

Ill go your route. 8000lb winch, hidden aluminum mount with synthetic line to keep everything on the light side. Ill probably go ahead with the winch before lift. But I'll be willing to drop the money for some 5100's at the very least right away if its noticeable.

Hey man that hidden winch mount is awesome. Do you have any plans or measurements for it?

This is what I was thinking but with steel. Using rectangular stock and a winch mount. Really nice job hear.
What do you all think. Glad to know it would work.
