If I get $200 I'll be very happy

For the twin sticks you just have to do a little cutting inside the case as far as I can tell, I'll try to find the post describing it and link it.

    But! But! 4xRunner!

When I do the diesel swap I'd like to add a crawl box as well. Since I'll be doing so much engineering to make all that fit just right, it seems like the best time to add it.

With the twin sticks (and eventually the crawl box) I'd like to have the sticks all come up through the shift boot similar to Homer Taco's... Well... Exactly like Homer Taco's lol

Imagine a thief breaking in to steal the truck and seeing all those knobs.

The FJ case and the Marlin Crawl Box will be fine with the future diesel swap. They should hold up to the torque and the 250 or so ponies I'd like to get out of the diesel. I think I'm going to end up using whatever transmission it comes with. I know there are manuals but they're kinda rare.

Really hoping all that will fit correctly...

    I'll make it fit.

Just had another thought. If I remember correctly, our xfer cases are 2.56:1. 4:1 would be real nice off-road...

I just need to win the lottery already so I can quit my job and build my truck.

That's why it's going to take a few years to get all of this done but go big or die boring.

Awesome, would love to read through a diy thread. I remember reading one on pirate 4x4 or maybe it was ih8mud about that

are the manuals a 5speed? Wonder how the ratios compare to the RA60F youve got right now

Any idea how much youd need to shorten the driveshaft when you add the crawl box? I remember looking up under a 4runner at jambo that had a crawl box, and the whole tranny/tcase/crawlbox combo was yuuuuuuge!

Such a great deal! I was looking at some online last night as well and found some in the similar price range. So tempting to pull the trigger on one! Super excited for this, you gonna do the awd fj cruiser diff tube to delete the ADD?

The threads are really spread out so I've been trying to put up decent ones here in my build thread. I've spent the last couple days and nights tracking down what I could so others interested in doing the swap won't have to.

I linked a couple on the first page of this thread, Post #4. This one was the most comprehensive, @SuthrnTaco07 did a stellar job putting that together.

I haven't even begun to dig that far yet but I imagine they are way different, the diesel are operating at MUCH lower RPM's.

Right about 8" which means you're adding 8" to the front driveshaft and subtracting 8' from the rear. This has me reconsidering a single shaft in the rear.

Nah, not gonna do the AWD or delete the ADD altogether. At least for now. I'll add a switch to dis/engage the front end.

After a few back-n-forths with @HomerTaco, I think I'm going with the triple shifter from Davez.

    upload_2019-2-16_0-32-25.jpg

    https://www.davezoffroadperformance.com/store/drivetrain/transfer-case/parts/triple-shifter.html

For one, I plan to eventually add a crawl box. I can reuse it later.

I think I can modify the forward base plate...

(This is where the sticks connect and pivot from in the first pic.)
    upload_2019-2-16_0-34-30.jpg

...that goes around the crawl box lever to fit around my transmission shift lever, and then secure it to the riser for the short throw shifter already installed.

    upload_2019-2-16_0-52-16.jpg

    - I just realized I took exactly zero pictures when I installed my short shifter so here's one from Google that may or may not be just like mine but is close enough for this post. Obviously my truck is not red. -

I really won't know until I see one in person so I can get hands on with it. Going off of the pictures I don't see why it wouldn't work.

    Repost from my PM:

Anything is possible with enough fabrication but consider this: the triple stick base is meant to mount on a crawl box with a shifter that only goes forward and backward. The trans shifter has a much larger range of motion. Also the bolt pattern for the crawl box shifter is radically different from that of the transmission shifter.

When only doing an FJ case swap it is possible to have the twin sticks come up to the right of the trans shifter by making extensions on the sticks.

The triple stick linkage is needed with a crawl box because it pushes the FJ case back another +8”

I think you’re actually making it more complicated than it needs to be for just an FJ case swap. ;)

Alright, in order to keep it simple because I'm stupid, I've ordered just the twin sticks. I really like how well they seal up the top of the case around the shifters.

    https://www.davezoffroadperformance.com/store/twin-stick-shifter.html

They're on back-order so I'll get them in 6-8 weeks or so.
    :fingerscrossed:

Now I just need to order the switch for the ADD switch mod and build the harness. I'll see if I can find a schematic for the RST harness and build a clone.

Good luck with that purchase- that company makes a great product but is woefully slow.

I saw that one, and that post is a giant golden nugget saved to my build thread for ever.

I've put together a decent list of good links over the past few days regarding the swap, was just thinking it might be a good idea to drop them in the FJ swap thread for others.

This is a great video that compared factory low range of 2.57:1 to the 4.70:1 I'm switching to. Check out the difference.

Then stick around for the taco box

    Update -

After a lot of thought, I'm going to do the ADD mod and the 4.70:1 Re-Gear. I'm going to hold off on the twin sucks until I do the crawl box and the triple sticks that way I only deal with multiple sticks once. With the crawl box install I'm planning on the truck being parked for a few days anyway. With the case swap I'd like to get it done in an afternoon. I'll be able to take my time and do it right to satisfy my OCD and perfectionism. With the ADD mod I'll still have access to a form of 2-Low and the reality is 2-Low is more of a convenience anyway.
