How to mount tool box on Tacoma prerunner double cab

How do you mount tool box without drilling self tapping screws on truck

I bought some doodads from Amazon that go in the bed rails and they have bolt threads in them. Run the bolts through the tool box into those blocks and you have a secured attachment that can't be undone from the outside.

If I remember correctly they come in sets of 2, so I ordered 2 sets.

Now that I look at it again they are described as "J Hooks", might be able to get the same thing cheaper at a hardware store if that is what people are calling j hooks here.

 

Na.. Traditional j hooks

Do the ones your using grab the channel tightly? I like how you can position them anywhere.

I'm using real j hooks and have them through the slots in the bottom of the factory rail. The slots are only bout an inch long so adjusting the box front to back is limited without cutting new slots in my box. Thanks for the link, might try a set of them.

Yup they fit the channel like they were cut for it, you can definitely get enough torque on them.

 

I took two carriage bolts, put the head in the side channels, drilled holes on the side of the tool box, and bolted it up. It's extremely secure. Only downside is drilling holes into your toolbox.......I didn't mind though because it was a $60 craigslist find.

 

lol I used to use jay hooks too. I ended up making some tabs that grip onto the bed rails. They look like that, but I made them from some scrap steel and welded a nut to the bottom of it. I'll try to take a picture of them.
