My friend, I like your thinking. I just did the same for the fogs.

    Worthless day pictures:

You've got a great handle on it. This is exactly all that's needed, aside from tools.

Here's a new link for ebay, hopefully it works. They finally started listing a comprehensive kit WITH the ball bulbs selected by default so you don't have to e-mail them. If you select the H11 Round Ball Bulb, you get 4300k for the color as the only option and it's 88 shipped. You would probably just want to put in a comment to seller to specify H11B.

After the relay is installed, yes it is still activated by the headlamp stalk like OE, it uses the OEM harness input to trigger enabling the relay and then sends power to the ballasts directly from the battery.

If installing headlights and fog, will I need to buy two DD relays?

Yes probably but I really don't think it's appropriate to install HIDs into a reflector fog housing as you're likely to blind everyone.

i ordered a complete kit based on the info above. Joyce from the ebay link seller manufactory88 was extremely helpful and set me up with a complete kit with round bulbs in 4300k, no canbus, low beam. price was 88USD and the order shipped w/in 2 hours of completing the sale. i also ordered the diode dynamics relay and it shipped today as well. looking forward to installing and i'll report back. thanks for the guidance.

You're very welcome, make sure to push in the pins on the relay, I do remember doing that with my harness and it didn't have any connection problems.

Also don't forget to buy a decent sized drill bit for widening the hole on the ballast for the bolt.

Had quite a few folks asking about how the Relay Harness is wired so here are some pictures and a basic diagram.

    OEM Input from Driver's Side
    [IMG]

Where I mounted the Relay and Ground wire, right next to fuse box (angle the relay)

Battery connector just bolts on to the accessory connector
    [IMG]

Leave the passenger side connector unplugged. It goes nowhere now.

Passenger ballast wire runs easily under the radiator trim piece. I stuck zip tie anchors under the trim piece and zip tied the wires to the trim piece.

A different angle of the relay and where it mounts

The ballasts draw more current during warmup than the factory 15amp fuse can accomodate and it will pop. I went through 3 before realizing that Hylux ballasts call for a minimum of a 20amp fuse. I used the 20amp fuse for several weeks without an issue, but decided to go with the relay for piece of mind.

Hylux ballasts are also one of China's best providers and these ballasts are probably some of the fastest to fire and warmup, but at the cost of drawing more power during the warmup cycle. The hlyux slim ballasts with mounting holes also makes install very convenient without having to use sticky tapes as they can mount to factory mounting points nice and hidden.

Here's a video of the warmup cycle. Nearly full brightness within 2 seconds, and the full warmup is complete within about 10 seconds. No flicker, stutter, inconsistency, etc. These are definitely matching if not beating some of the best in the business.

Hey Scooby24, thanks for all of the great info on this thread! It's super helpful. I am going to go with the same HIDs for the low's and relay harness that you recommend. You're just using the stock halogens for hi's right?

What are you using for LED fog lights to match the 4300k HID lo's and daytime running lights? Are they also easy to install? I am looking to use them in the stock housings preferably from a '17 TRD Sport.

I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on it all soon.

    Thanks again!

yeah i'd be in for a color match solution for the Rigid Pro fogs in my truck. i don't like them, far too blue and a little dim. i would like a warmer and brighter solution if there is one w/o changing the housing.

4300k seems to really match the drl well when they dim with the low beams.

I went with morimoto xb led housings for the lows and they are not hard at all your install. Remove the plastic trim surround, one screw and the old housing is out. 4300k is definitely more yellow than the 5500k led fogs but it's really not that noticeable and considering the trd pro uses halogens with the white rigid fogs, it's not unlike what you'd expect with oem.

And yeah stock halogens for hi beams. Haven't had to use em once.

so you don't think a bulb change will get a worthwhile improvement in the Rigid fogs?

i wonder if there are yellow halogen bulbs available for them... i prefer either a yellow fog or at least some warmth. i find the blue color from the fogs distracting and hard to focus through. i had yellow halogen bulbs on my FTP lights on my VW R32 and liked them.

@Scooby24 do you know what bulb fits in there?

Rigid fogs are probably using an integrated led in the housing and isn't interchangeable with another color. You may be able to add a yellow lamin-x film to adjust the color.

Or...If they didn't modify the bumper you could go with factory fogs to get the bulb interchangability

OME, sliders, dents, hail damage, soiled armrest. Lightbulbs.
Osram Fog Breaker H11 2600K have an okay yellow color. Hard to get ahold of though.

    http://www.clublexus.com/forums/lighting/730191-review-osram-fog-breaker-yellow-bulbs.html

I ordered from NigelJDM and it took weeks to get. Their communication was vague and left a lot to be desired. The bulbs look decent in the truck, but output is about -20% lower than a high power white H11 like the Philips XtraVision.

I use a lux meter to check the output. Just based on the rough ratio of what I saw, if the Philips XtraVision is around 1350 lumens, the Osram is around 1100 lumens. Guesstimate.

Fogs - morimoto projector retrofit is the way to do it. Otherwise, mod an H9 bulb to fit into the H11 housing (takes 60 seconds to do) and get ~twice the lumens output.

I was just offering up another option. Twice the price, yes. More output...dunno. To my eye, I would say no...but you WILL have OEM quality. Plus, they look like they came from the factory this way. 20-30 minute install...including grabbing a beer beforehand.

I liked this idea at first, but the Limited's are a plastic lens...too much heat in there. Would have to buy the OR's anyway, I think.
