It's super easy. Literally did mine in a Home Depot parking lot (I bought it used, had to buy some replacement hardware, was too impatient to wait until I got home). As long as you have the right size tools, super easy.

Just did mine a few days ago... no issues aside from getting the bolts to line up was a bit of a pain. I made the mistake of trying to do mine at 11pm after I got home from school, having to get up at 6am the next morning for work, so I was trying to rush and it made it take longer.

Watch out for the yellow anchors that go into the brackets. They break easy and don't hold the very front of the rack in the hole as securely as it should and can come off of the rack once it's already set while you're trying to screw the rack down. Someone in another thread mentioned that you can get beefier ones at Autozone, in this thread: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/tacoma-oem-roof-rack.148804/ .. might eventually take mine back off to replace them.

    OEM self installed roof rack
May be too late to help but I just installed the OEM rack and found it wasn't super easy. Lining up the 6 long machine screws, 3 each side, was difficult. I had to start one, then push hard on the rack to line up the other 2, starting them all with a few turns as possible so the 2 short screws on the front bracket could be started. Instructions say to pry the holes for these in line with an awl or other appropriate tool. On one side, I had to start them before locating the 3 long screws or I couldn't get them all in.

Also, the long screws mount in the rack long bars through steel sleeves with a bearing surface about 1/4" countersunk below the top of the bar. One of mine was not countersunk. I pried it out of the hole (these sleeves are 2 piece, the top rests on the lower half which comes up from the bottom of the bar), hand drilled the hole to remove plastic remnants that prevented the sleeve from seating correctly and got it corrected.

Hope this helps it anyone encounters similar problems.
