    I had this idea today and I wanted to run it by you all. I have the tow package for my Tacoma. Now, my friend was telling me to get a tow ball so I can tow things. Well, I didn't think that I would use it that much, if at all. Now I was wondering about attaching a shackle to the tow package instead. I was wondering is that possible? It's just a thought and I wouldn't have a single clue in how to put a shackle to it. Any advice would be great, thanks!

    There's some threads and pictures of shackles on the hitch. Need to do that myself since it makes it very easy for somebody to pull you out of a snowbank if you get off the road in a storm.
    Happened to me and a truck behind me stopped and got out a chain. That's when I realized there's not a lot to hook onto without a hitch.

    I believe Beefed Taco makes them. You can find him in the "vendors" section.
    I just took the ball out of a regular receiver and threw it in the toolbox with an ARB shackle.

    Is an ARB shackle different than any other shackle?

    I don't know if I want an all black one or a black with a red shackle? I don't do the whole chrome look.

    Nah, ARB makes nice stuff but a shackle is a shackle. (as long as they're made the same and rated the same etc)

    what kind of paint would you use to paint a shackle? Is there a paint code, brand that you people can think of that would be pretty close to Barcelona Red?

    The arb ones are rated for higher weight than equal sized ones I could find at local tractor supply stores. They arent any different than another of the same weight rating.

    I have a Reese one I think. Got it at Autozone IIRC. But still wouldnt be a bad Idea to pick up a Tow ball and keep it in the truck in case you need to tow something. I keep mine behind the rear seat. And a locking pin is a good investment if you want to keep your shackle installed and not get stolen. I just took off the clevis portion since that is only screwed in.
