Both! I have an 83 CJ7 that I've owned and built since college. It's my toy and the Taco is my DD. Love 'em both.

Jeeps do come with Dana front and rear axles and front/rear lockers and all that goodness. But, heaven forbid you have to drive one of those everyday. A tacoma is much more useful in just about all situations, and a 4x4 Tacoma with Atrac and the locking rear probably isn't really that far from the offroad capability of a jeep, except for maybe turning radius. I mean I guess the Grand Cherokees are a better option if you really are drinking the Jeep koolaid, since they do have that new Jeep Quadralift thing that will raise the airbag suspension by 2.5 inches on command for rock climbing stuff. But Jeep's reliability has gone down the tubes since I owned a 96 Grand Cherokee 4x4, which I had luckily never had problems with. My family also owned a 2004 Grand and the damn thing was broken 24/7.

I'm not sure if it matters, but depending on how old you are, where you live, or if you plan on later giving the vehicle to a child you may want to inquire about insurance premiums...before I bought my first Toyota, I thought I wanted a Jeep really bad....thankfully I looked into premiums. For me at the time (male, under 21) it was going to be $250 per month full coverage for a 6 month policy with no accidents and no tickets on my record for the Jeep compared to $125 per month full coverage for the 4x4 Toyota...I think insurance companies "red flag" Jeeps as automatic "off road vehicles" and insure them as such betting they will be damaged at some point....also, my dad owned a '99 Sahara 4.0 manual and it was a loud, obnoxious, crappy riding daily vehicle...I've always believed that people that own Jeeps WANT to own Jeeps cause they can wear you out driving them on a daily basis....that being said, I'm soooo glad I decided on the Toyota and never looked back (and I haven't even mentioned the great reliability factor of the Tacoma!!)

I just made the switch. The jeep is not a a daily driver. It is an animal on the trails though without much modifications. I also had an F-350. I sold both and I think the Tacoma is a good middle ground between the two. I still have a truck and can do some light towing as well as have a comfortable daily driver and light wheeling rig to get out and explore.

    Here are the Pics

2005 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited - 39000 miles. 2nd owner. 4.0L, Automatic Trans, Dana 44 Limited Slip Rear, Soft Top and Safari Top. 2 tone interior. Warranty to 7/70k. ProComp Lift 4 inch, Bilstein 5100 shocks, Ipod Hookup, Factory Subwoofer, Warn rear bumper and tire carrier, New ProComp Wheels, Poison Spyder Ricochet Rockers, Advanced Frame Works Front Bumper, Smittybilt xrc8 synthetic line winch, Hella E-code lights with DDM HIDs, Autopage paging alarm with microwave sensor, additional kill switch, New Centric Rotors and EBC Yellow pads.

as far as room, gas mileage and comfort the tacoma wins hands down.
but a jeep is fun to drive and awesome offroad. especially if you get the rubicon.
i made the switch from a rubicon to a tacoma about 2 months ago. i love both vehicles but i will never own a jeep as an everyday driver again.

I just recently traded my 2009 Wrangler Unlimited for my 2010 DCSB PR and it was best decision of life. Jeep was sick 3" lift 285s all murdered out, and constantly leaked (with hard top), rode like crap, got 14 mpg, slow and terrible if need to pass. If it was for a weekend rig I would love it, but for a daily drive my Tacoma is a night and day better.

Well here it goes, if you want a truck buy a truck, a more fair comparison would be between an fj cruiser and a Jeep, I have buddies with both, and a fj with the c-package (I Believe, the one wiht a trac and rear locker anyways) is just as capable as a wrangler but again more practical, more power, nicer ride better fuel economy so on and so fourth, since my buddies have started modding, the Jeep with long arm and 35's is a nice rig, and the removable top is a nice feature IMO, Like most have said, what ever you like best, make a list of the perfect vehical for you and give each section a scale rating on what is most important and what you will be doing with, and go from their

No HEEP for me......very impractical. Owned one......never again. The quaility just does not measure up. Gas mileage not good.

sold my 04 Rubicon so i could buy my 15,000 mi 07 tacoma 4x4 last month. we bought a small travel trailer (16' Scamp) and i didnt' feel comfortable with the jeep's towing capacity. i really liked the jeep's resale. i bought the thing 3 yrs ago and sold it for more than i purchased it. the Rubicon was overkill for me but i got it at a good price. those dana 44's locked in and "low" on the transfer case really would take you places. we'll see how the toy does in the snow. i'm still getting use to the diffrent manners.

I generally don't really like Jeeps, But that is AWESOME! I love the paint, and the retro look. Thats probably one of the all-around cool/most fun-looking jeeps I've seen. Well done sir. Well done indeed.

    Does Plasti-Dip count as a mod ?
I did actually consider a Jeep before the Taco. Then I remembered how they drove on the road. Ummmm, no.

For a dedicated trail rig, it would be great.

Depends on what you want to do, if all you wanna do is go wheelin i would get a jeep. I have owned a few jeep tj's both rubicons. One i had 5.5" long arm lift, 37 inch tires bumpers winch etc etc. that thing went anywhere. i also owned a stock rubicon and that jeep was great to.

I never had reliability issues, even so parts are cheap and easy to replace. i now own an 05 tacoma dc OR. I have had it out lots and every time there was times i was saying "man i wish i had my jeep" I can take my jeep any place a quad can go and be warm.

The taco beats the jeep hands down for highway travel towing etc. But on tight trails, rock crawling etc etc i would take a jeep over a taco any day.
