Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Jeeps have their place and Tacomas have their place. But out of the factory, a stock Jeep will out-wheel a stock Tacoma without much effort. I have a CJ5, and still prefer it for bumping around in the woods with. For one, it's an old Jeep and I don't worry about scratching it or denting it, 2 it is easy and cheap to repair. Jeeps, at least the old ones are like an AMF-era Harley Davidson, you spend more hours working on the Jeep than you do driving it sometimes. But all that work pays off in one weekend in the woods. Plus with a Jeep you get a convertible and can enjoy the sun and fresh air while wheeling, something that makes off-roading way more fun. And if you decide to hit a mud hole, or the dog takes a shit in the Jeep, a garden hose and 15 minutes of your time is all it takes to wash the interior out.

Don't get me wrong, the Tacoma is a very capable 4x4, and with a small lift and 35s, goes lots of places. Biggest thing with a Taco over a Jeep is that they can be a DD and weekend warrior at the same time. I used to daily drive my CJ and it was far from a street performer, it was tall, narrow, and short. Cornering did feel like you would tip over, but parallel parking is a bliss and so is parking in a crowded parking lot. It sucked in snow and ice due to the short/narrow wheelbase and the lightness of it, was really squirrelly and the heater could not crank out enough heat to keep the inside of the windows from frosting up. But come summer time, the top comes off and it turns into a fun, "4 wheel drive convertible" as my Dad always refers to my Jeep and his early Broncos.

In the end it all comes down to personal preference, but being a fanboy makes guys look and behave like tools. I know several Jeep and Yota fanboys and they are the most ignorant, and annoying people I know. Right up there with the "Real Americans buy American made trucks" crowd.

bilstein set at 1.75, Racho 5000 rear with 4 leaf kit, floor mats, high lift jack, pull hook in hitch, bed rail corner braces, severe duty brake pads and devil horns on the grill....
We have one of each...wife's DD is a 08 Sahara, 6 speed, 3.21 gears, two door. Only repairs so far have been a four wheel brake job and dealer rebuilt tranny under TSB. Oh yea, original shocks were terrible. The 18" tires are hard to find, but now we have decent choices and are using BFG Rugged Terrain. Winter tires are blizzaks on 17" rims...and it has a plate bumper and warn winch.

However, it gets the same gas milage as the '11 taco, repairs haven't been much different, fit and finish are great, motor burns no oil, however, the diffs seem to need changing every couple of years.

When we go on long trips, we take the taco since it behaves better on long highway stretches, and since the taco is a 6 speed 3.73 truck, less shifting in the hills. On the other hand, the jeep has far more options, sat radio, subwoofer, removeable top panels and shorter wheelbase for off road. It will turn on a dime and give back change. Both the taco and jeep drive dirt and gravel roads EVERY day. The modern tire designs are great since they give decent milage, fairly quiet, good on dirt and gravel (not so good in mud) and good on the 7 miles of twisty to the nearest major highway.

I've got both. 2012 models. The jeep 3.8 eats oil , look at the forums. The new penastar is supposed to be much better. The 4.0 was a rock. As mentioned, the jeep is great for short jaunts. The taco beats it in every other way.

None yet, need to finish the HEEP first
I have both. Building an 89 Heep crawler and have a 2010 Tacoma for a DD/tow rig for the Heep.

I thought the pentastar came standard in 2012? That 3.8 is such a joke, idk what Jeep was thinking when they did away with the 4.0 inline six, those things are bulletproof. I have the older version AMC 4.2 inline six in my CJ5 and its taken a beating but keeps on ticking, no other motor builds bottom end torque like the inline sixes do either.

This was my 4th Jeep, which I traded for my Taco.

If I get another Jeep, it will be for the weekends and it will probably be a TJ.

The JK was fine, but sucked as a daily driver.

Missing My Last Tacoma --- Had 11 Toyota trucks in the past and many other Toyota cars too.
    .
I like and have had Jeeps (CJ-5 & CJ-7) in the past, but they can't be really compared to Tacomas.

The last 10 years I have had the urge to buy a Jeep, but then I think . Tacoma is a Toyota product . :D . and . Jeep is a Chrysler product .

Then my brain snaps out of the . "Jeep Commercial" . and back to the common sense Toyota. . . :D

I can't believe it took this long for someone to mention a 40. Not a comfort vehicle, but reliable as hell and very capable off road.

Just bought a 2013 DCSB TRD Off Road. Like it a lot, but I LOVE my '77 Land Cruiser.

Really nice outfit man! I am contemplating getting out of Jeeps and modifying a FJ40, older Yota Pickup, or an Early Bronco. 3 very hard decisions, would do them all if I could!

Coming from a YJ I would say Tacoma all day long. Real good friend has a JK Unlimited that i've drove many times. The Jeeps although fun are not practical and if you have ever gone from a truck to a jeep, you will miss having a truck bed thats for sure.

Also as a side note, even on a new JK with 33's it feels like my YJ did with 40's on stock gears. Very sluggish =(

My YJ has 297k miles has pieces of metal falling off its body, frame rot everywhere, but the engine sounds as good as the day it was first fired up.

Those inline 6's were the worst piece of garbage engines EVER built. We've had TWO of them, the first an '89 with the 258 -- junker lasted only two years and drank oil faster than a russian drinks vodka. Half hour on the highway = 1 qt of oil. Apparently, they were practically ALL doing that. Second heep a '91 with the 242.... well ok, its not as bad as the 258 was, but full throttle in 3rd gear with a 1500 pound boat in tow = 70 kph max speed. The hell is up with THAT???? I could pull that boat faster with a freaking yaris.

I keep that heep around because its a simple box on wheels. If anything breaks on it, I'll replace that part with something that's not heep. I've got a spare nissan 3.0 ready to drop into it as soon as I come up with the time.
