Maybe those 4 door JKs are better but my LJ was loud, rough, vibrated all over the damn place -- took it back to the dealer a million times, they even replaced an axle shaft, didn't get very good mileage. It just wasn't a very decent DD in most respects. Just my experience with Jeep.

    Good looking rig though.

Yeah, that's a nice Jeep, nice color too. I'd consider one now that they have a REAL engine in them if it weren't for my dislike for Chrysler (and GM). But that's a discussion for another time. Nice ride, though.

This is interesting... I'm surprised that so many people have such strong opinions on this. It's not like Toyota and Jeep are really in competition with one another. People who want a pickup truck (or a number of annoying other cars) will buy a Toyota, and people who want a Jeep will buy a Jeep.

People should really be debating over other midsize trucks. Jeep is just.. different.

I currently own a 1999 Jeep Wrangler Sahara - for those who don't know it's a 4x4 with an inline 6 cyl 4.0L engine. I've had it since 2008 and have loved it in every application. From trail riding to a daily driver and for long trips. No jeeps are not naturally going to ride better than your new tacoma and there's plenty of reasons for that.

One thing I have noticed about owning both vehicles is that when it comes to customization, it is far easier to find parts for Jeeps. Rather than researching who the vendors are that provide high quality parts like I do for my Tacoma, there are a number of full length catalogues that come out many times a year which feature nothing but Jeep parts.

I bought my 2012 Tacoma (Access Cab with 4x4) with 15K miles on it. For all intents and purposes it was new when I bought it. It still has Toyotacare, Toyota roadside assistance, and whatnot. I have LOVED utilizing the features Toyota provides to new car owners. I never had the opportunity to do that with my Jeep and have relied largely on self-performed maintenance to keep it up.

I haven't had my Taco long enough to tell you how it does off road. It hasn't had enough modifications either. I had larger tires and a small lift on my Jeep and it was a true joy to drive offroad.

I'll post some pictures with this post. I'd be happy to discuss the merits of either side with anyone interested.

I use my trucks for different purposes and am so happy to be able to have both. I really can't argue which is better... they're just different..

VERY WELL SAID!! Part of what I find funny is comparing the JEEP WRANGLER specifically to other vehicles let alone a truck. Until just the last few years (07 and up) the Wrangler was a very minimalistic vehicle meant almost entirely for "playing" off highway. Everything was meant so you could hose the whole thing off, inside and out. Certainly nothing fancy. The parts were mostly sheet metal and simple plastic and even the seats were designed to be rained on. They simply were never meant to compete with much of anything when it comes to creature comforts and highway handling prowess. Heck, even my 2012 has drain plugs so I can let the rain out. Admittedly some of that has changed recently with some darn classy upgrades to those JEEP creature comforts but those new ones are not the ones everyone here wants to compare to. You might as well be comparing a VW Bug with an F-350 for the way many here talk. When all is said and done...it is a silly comparison.

The Taco is not for me at this time. If I got one, I want SupraT’s Taco. That thing has impressed the crud out of me on a number of occasions off road and blows my doors off on the highway...damnit.
And I don’t know why, but I absolutely love the sound of that engine when he winds it up.

Here are some of those "cats and dogs playing together"...lol This is just below Elkhorn Montana (ghost town) last weekend. That Montana Taco crew are good folks.

So what you're saying is that they're not a very good DD to most, unless you've got the Jeep thing.

Which is what I said, I think.

I don't dislike them but I owned one and wouldn't want it as a DD again.

Well...I am just trying to figure out where I said anything about the"Jeep Thing". While I don't use the phrase myself, it is an old joke which seems to make other vehicle driver's testes bleed for some reason. I am not sure if Midol helps but it might.:D

So here…let me help. You are correct that your mostly highway vehicle is better for mostly highway driving. And my rig made to be exceptional for off-highway use is not as good on the highway as your Taco. If I lived in the city that might matter to me. Clearly I use my vehicle a little differently than you do yours. You wouldn’t understand…uh...nevermind. lol Just to make you feel better, your truck is also better than a boat for highway use. It is also better than a go-cart for pulling a trailer. Heck, its better than a GEO at transporting a washing machine. Its even better than… Oh what the hell, you get the idea.

Pick a rig that works for you folks…and if it’s the only way you feel like a real person, you have mypermission to declare your personal make and model the ONLY one in the whole wide world that works. There…feel better now? lol :stirthepot:

Me..Well I think they are both great rigs but then I don't need to use my vehicle choice to define myself. :crapstorm: Though who knows..maybe the midol will help me too.

So what you're saying is uhh u mad?

I didn't mean to offend your Jeeping sensibilities. Nor was I trying to attack Jeeps, simply share my experiences of owning one for a year -- however negative.

Your slights don't offend me in the least bit however.

Here's a pic of my Pops Jeep.

He just started Modding it. OME lift with 32s and Warn all around. Not a fan of the color but w/e

He and I bullshit back and fourth about Jeep vs. Yota...I usually win the conversation. He and I both agree that the Tacoma is a better "all around" vehicle.

Heres the jeep I traded for my Toyota...

The jeep was awesome for what it was, but with the amount of time and money spent you can build any other vehicle that is just as capable offroad including a toyota. One thing I can say from experience is - the more mods done- the more capable vehicle you have-the more challenging trails you do- the more parts you break- the more money you spend. This can be said for many vehicles.

Its not about the vehicle, its about the path taken... (talk about cliché):D

Your old Jeep and your new Taco both look like they will get you there. Safe wheeling.....

I wish I would've kept my jeep. I sold it cause I needed the money at the time. I wish I could've kept it so I could trade it in for my Tacoma.

HAHAHA! That seems to be a popular use for a Jeep on this site. I guess I could have guessed some of that from the name of the site huh? Funny. Whatever you drive...keep on trucking....or jeepin...or something.
