    Wheelin and liquor don't mix. Or is it jeeps and wheelin? Or liquor and jeeps?

    No problem.

    I would say a lot of your Tacos have changed a bit since that first time together. I think many of you have garnered a good bit more experiance as well so you would all do better today from what I can gather. I have run with Tony a good number of times since then and both the vehicle and the driver are hard to keep up with these days. Lisa keeps testing and expanding her limits too and I enjoyed our recent run up Skyline Mine Trail with her and Mac. I don't really care what someone drives. I care what kind of people they are.

    Got the best of both worlds. They each have their purpose, but when the zombie apocalypse comes, we're loading up in the JK :D

    I thought long and hard before buying my '09 Tacoma this summer about a 4 door JK, but in the end it came down to towing capacity. The JK seemed low at 3500 lbs considering my old 2000 blazer was rated at 5200lbs. I need to haul 2 snowmobiles in an enclosed trailer all winter and felt that was pushing it. Could it do it, more than likely, just wanted to take the safe bet with the Taco and know it could haul it for sure, and when it's just me going sledding I can throw it in the back of the Taco now. Although the jeep does have it's advantages. Maybe when the gf is due to upgrade her car it'll be time for a JK.

    Thanks man. You're right on the soft top tho. Luckily, with the amazing quality of the 3.8L, I should be able to find a mall crawler with a hard top that I can steal dead on the side of the road every hundred yards or so! :rofl:

    I had my 95 Wrangler for 3 years and loved every minute it of it. I wheeled the piss out of it and it never gave in. Sold it and got an 01 Tacoma. Love them both.

    And I have seen posts about Jeeps not being dependable. Save for the JK, the AMC 4.0 in TJ's and YJ's is probably one of the most trust worthy engines you can buy. My Jeep had the 2.5 4 cylinder. Slow as hell but that thing kept chugging along - up hills, on the rocks, etc.

    x2, I like the JKs the most when people just mod the shit out of them. They turn into some seriously bad ass rigs.

    Yeah they do, we rented a modified Rubi in Arizona to go wheeling with, I can't remember the specs for certain, but I think it had a 3 inch lift and 35s. Damn thing got around amazing. Lemme see if I can find some pics of it here, pretty sure I still got some on photobucket.

    Here they are, rented it from a outfit called Barlow's Jeep rental, really good people to work with. Awesome wheeling in AZ, way different than what I am used to from wheeling in MT all my life!

    Both, thank you. Wife drives a JK rubicon 4 door, her mini-van. I have the Taco. When the zombies hit, its cool to have all your vehicles equipped with lockers, sliders, and BFG MTs.

    Yeah, having a 2WD version out there is a tough thing for Jeepers to deal with. Tons of rants on JK Forum around how they never should have existed (think Mustang II... :D). And heaven forbid if someone posts asking about how to do a 4WD swap on one! :crapstorm:

    I have a 95 Wrangler YJ and a 98 Tacoma. I love them both but the Tacoma is a much better daily driver.

    Twas the night before Christmas, And all through the trails,
    Every Toyota was stranded, Their progress like snails.
    ... They had no shovels, No rope and no winch,
    No CB, no cell-phone, To get out of their pinch.
    When out from a mud pit, There arose such a clatter;
    All the 'wheelers came running To see what was the matter.
    I saw some poor Toyota All covered in crud;
    He had blown his motor trying to get free of the mud.
    As he stood there I noticed His glowing red face,
    And I knew in an instant He wanted out of this place.
    I glanced at his roof, It was all I could see;
    He pleaded for help From my winch and from me.
    So I sprang to the front Of my trusty old toy,
    Spooled out the winch cable, Said "Hook 'er up, boy!"
    He went for a swim In the watery hell, and
    I laughed as he turned brown, And started to smell.
    He hooked up the cable to his buried front hook,
    I put a coat on the line Like it says in the book.
    I winched him out quickly, A very fast session;
    And I charged him a C-note, To teach him a lesson.
    I then drove my Jeep through the same mud and same muck;
    No problem for me, 'Cause I had a REAL truck!
    I wound down my window as I drove out of sight,
    And smugly yelled "Next time Stay home Christmas night!"

    My wife and I have had several Jeeps over the years - a Wrangler, a Grand Cherokee, a Cherokee and a Liberty. I finally grew tired of them being at the dealership for stupid repairs over and over and over again (I could write up a lengthy list) and bought my Tacoma earlier this year.

    And my wife and daughter now drive Kia's and they love them.

    If anybody ever made a Wrangler-esque body with Toyota-esque quality they could take over the world.
