I am not trying to start a filter flame thread just providing some info I found out today while picking up some auto parts. I have 1998 Toyota Tacoma that I needed to do a oil change on. The stock wix filter number is 51348; however, I purchase the 51516 for my Tacoma which is similar to the Toyota D3 filter most people use.

I noticed they have an even slightly larger filter 51516XP. The height on that is 5.197" vs 4.828" on the 51516. I have not tried this filter yet and relize we have a confining space. Just wondering if anyone else is running this filter.

Thank you for your service. Semper Fi.

I honestly never looked into a larger filter. I always used the M1-102 by Mobile 1 and I always figured is was big enough. Curiosity why would you wanna run a bigger filter?

I really didn't come up with the idea of running a larger filter. It was mentioned on this forum that a lot of people run the Toyota D3 oil filter which is the same as the stock one. Just a little longer, allowing for a full 6 quart fill up rather then having a 1/2 quart left over. I just happened to notice the 51516XP which is even a little larger. As to why you would want to have a larger filter, I am not an engineer, however, more filter space and allows for more oil in the system. Semper fi RM92!

I ran a larger filter on my 22R. It was off of a v8 ford or chevy can't remember now but I did it for the increased oil capacity. Not sure I really ever noticed any difference though.

It's not something you would notice but should provide some longevity to your oil by having more in the system.
