As far as I know, no one has bricked their ECUs. You do it yourself with the files and USB stuff they send you. If something goes wrong, you just redo the process again. I have a feeling that ECUs are a bit more reliable & robust because they are getting more complex, so this process is more like running a script that changes some registry settings in a computer instead of completely wiping/rewriting the entire memory module like BIOS update does. Reg edits can definitely screw things up if done improperly, but it doesn't brick the computer.

We are getting pretty off-topic, so it's best to ask those questions in their main thread:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/2016-toyota-tacoma-v6-ecu-tuning-alpha-release.495735/

or in the thread specific to your transmission...

    MT: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...anual-transmission-engine-ecu-reflash.515734/

You can buy it or read the FAQs about the company here:

Best of all, updates/improvements are free!!

So to get us back on track...has anyone swapped out the side marker lights with LEDs? I keep forgetting about those... lol

So are the hikari Phillips worth putting in my highs if I’m not going to redrill them and adjust the bulb??

Yuuup!!! Absolutely worth it. I didn’t drill mine at all. In fact no one had done that until @mrproduxn brought it up.

Drilling may help, but again they work great as is.

I personally don't know if it makes any difference. I don't recall anyone changing the orientation with these or any other bulbs in the highs. Bottom line is, the way the housing lock tabs are oriented, no other bulb will be aligned, without a built in adjustment, or by drilling the collar. From what others said the reflector in the highs do not dictate alignment. For me it is an ocd thing. Glad I did it but may not be required.

I would like to add that, standing in front of the truck with the high beams on, you don't have a freakin clue about orientation. You are more concerned about regaining your vision. A good example would be looking directly at the sun and then trying to determine the sun's orientation.

As soon as I can tomorrow at work I'll sort outg my before and after photos. I locked the ISO and f stop so nothing was adjusted automatically.

Until then these are my thoughts now.

The light output is much more concentrated and obviously brighter looking because it is whiter. Much whiter. I'll need to see how the peripheral is when I drive on the highway where before it was obviously at around 170 degrees as I could clearly see the light beam on the concrete safety barrier. I don't think that is happening now. I do think the Hikari's make up for that by actually providing more illumination overall than the OEM bulbs. I will confirm this on thed drive home tomorrow.

I honestly feel like I made a good choice switching to the Hikari's but I think I may need to adjust the low beams up a little. When I pull up on smaller cars at a red light, like a civic, the cutoff is just about at the top of the back right before it rolls onto the trunk lid. I didn't get any high beam flashes driving home fro the nursing home last night so I think I might raise them a tiny bit to see how it is.

I have the fogs lined up where the OEMs were. I think the projection height is perfect. There's no need to waste any of the output on the road in front of the truck where I can't see it so I believe I have them perfect. Do they cast the same illumination as the BD Squadrons? Hell no, they are two different types of lights. Overall can I see the roadway paint lines better? Hell yea. That was my goal. The pictures ared very deceiving and honestly, to me, it looks like the LEDs are not doing a better job than the halogen bulbs. Thiss is not the case at all. The only place where the Hikari's don't match the halogens is the area above the cutoff point. When you see the photos you'll see what I mean. Is this bad? I can't think of why I would need to see 50' in the air above the roadway. I use high beams for that. I do remember when I was watching the headlight revolution video review of the GTR gen 3 bulbs fo $200 bucks, they had those softer areas above the cutoff point. I'm not quite ready to spend that much for that feature. If and when I am I'll move the Hikari's to the high beams.

I do like the look of the Morimoto's when they're off. Really makes me wish there was an inexpensive way to black out the headlights. And no, not gonna bake mine! Saw that thread, gave me nightmares last night.

My summary, I love the results and the white light is so clean looking. The color temp of the two upgrades match the DRL color perfectly so the truck looks like it should have from the factory. Performance has definitely been increased and to these old eyes, I can clearly see road better now. That was the goal.

Just curious, why do you think you need to adjust your low beams up after putting in the Hikari LEDs? I’m a novice in lighting and just assumed by swapping to the Hikari LED bulb in the low beam that I’d be good to go. Wondering if this is a necessary adjustment or just personal preference?

Mine seem fine as is. The throw seems good, and the spread is where it should be on the lows, and the highs pick up just above the low beam cutoff. At first I considered raising them but as installed they do not blind the rear view mirror of cars in front of me unless I am on their bumper. The beam is more at the top of their trunk or at the bottom of their rear glass.

@MagneticTaceaux I haven’t changed them and the cutoff seems the same as @mrproduxn says, as well as those who haven’t adjusted have said too. I just didn’t want scattered light but the HB reflector seems we’ll distributed.

@JRH_Tacoma not many people are adjusting the LB because the projector also does a great job distributing the cut off. Even when I’m right behind lower cars at a red light stopped, it doesn’t shoot up past thier trunk.

You know, the best way to raise your LBs is to lift your truck. :D:D

    Thanks for the initial review!

Ok, I feel like a POS for not posting sooner and even now it will be BS. My damn PhotoShop is not working. I also want a buddy of mine that is better photographer than me to look at them because for some reason, the phone shot the before with an exposure time of 1/4 and the afters with an exposure time of 1/30. I want to see if he can adjust them and if not I will reshoot the afters. They are so not right looking. In person, 100% difference, but the photos lie as is. I am not going to show them because it may mislead someone.

I also want to shoot some photos of the light hitting the back of a car so you can tell me what you think as far as me wanting to adjust them. I think I can to get more throw before I start blinding oncoming cars. The lower ones, tough.

    Sorry.

I was wondering if anyone can help me out. I did the led conversion with the Auxbeam F16. I taped down the led controller with 3M command tape. Do you guys think it will hold up? I only realized that it was foamy when I was securing the controllers and got me thinking.

I was wondering if anyone else has used it?

Online it says it can withstand up to 125 Fahrenheit. Here in Phoenix is gets up to the 118.
