I did this years ago but pulled them out. If you don't stay in reverse for long periods of time this should be fine. However if you wheel and find yourself backing out of long trails like me, there is a risk of overheating and melting which is why I went back to stock. (Didn't want to risk melting my blacked out aftermarket housings.) I don't believe LEDs put out the heat that filament bulbs do.

Is it possible to do this mod with the LED vs of the 886s?

I've left mine on for pretty long times during back-up without any problems. I use my truck offroad. A blackout light might have an issue though, because it might absorb more of the light.

I purchased these mid summer https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0193ISBUA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 they are incredibly bright. 1000 lumin per bulb. I think I might have some pics, if not I can take some if that'll help.

I ordered these today after seeing @House Forsaken's post  - I'll compare both and weigh back in on the thread.

I would highly suggest at least considering the Phillips bulbs. Bit more pricey, but they're worth it for the brightness and quality. Ask how I know..

I'll be interested to see the results you get from them. Being out here in the woods, I can use all the lights I can get at times, even though I try not to drive too much after dark if I can avoid it. Too many critters skulking on the sides of the road, waiting to jump out with no warning. Also, it's easy to back into a tree or rocks without decent lights...

Ya, I backed into a friken parking lot post. Sometimes I think these reverse cameras give you a false sense of security. Granted this is my first vehic that has one

After 3 attempts I ended up using the Philips bulbs and am happy with them. Not as bright as 886 but close, and made for reverse.

First tried some random Amazon reverse leds but they weren't bright at all. Then did the 886 mod and one burnt out within a month, filament looked badly burnt. I barely use reverse so I was pretty disappointed.
