I'm digging that @docloco magnetic mount! Thinks it's strong enough to hold through a thin case?

Yes. My current iPhone has a Lifeproof case with a Scosche magnet and it’s plenty strong.

Modifying this with a magnetic holder may be the way to go!

I like having the option of adjustment with the arm, but yeah some sort of a magnet mount option would be cool

Just purchased the Tech Deck xtreme-duty version, and probably going to get a pillar mod eventually. Now to wait and install it when it's not so cold out.

Welcome to TacomaWorld, you’ll definitely have a heap of options with a setup like that.

I actually modded where the handle screws so the end of the Ultragauge OBDII plug fit through. So only a little wire comes through the handle.

I realize these are old posts, but I would hate for folks to not do this mod because they have corded Carplay or Android and aren't down with installing a USB port.

My solution was to buy a black lightning cable, std 3' is more than plenty, available near the checkout at any Marshalls for about $7. Run it from the back of the HU or the units pigtail under the dash and out between the dash and the A Pillar post. Piece of cake. No cutting. No wiring. Put your phone in the mount and plug it in and viola.

Setting this up in my brother's 2003 Tundra for a road trip. The Tundra a pillar handle bolts are significantly deeper than 1st/2nd gen Tacos and other Toyotas I've tried this on. Picked up some aluminum spacers and will need to grab a longer M6 bolt after Christmas.

I had a short arm but didn't like how it fit. Fast forward a year or so and moved my knuckle joint arm to the A Pillar, I think this one will be usable.
