A bit of a weird question, but has anyone had issues with mice nesting under the hood? Found this guy burnt up today, and in the past have seen them scurrying across the windshield. I’m afraid they are going to chew up wires and make a mess. Any way I can prevent this? 0A104292-441F-4569-B30C-623EB939BCBF.jpg

At 3 months old my new truck lost that new truck smell. In the HVAC blower box of course. Didn't get past the cabin air filter, but did nest atop it. Which means piss and shit. Is that a worse smell than dead mouse? It's a toss up.

Took off the wipers, pull the plastic cover. You'll find a couple of places big enough for mice to get inside the air box source. 1/4inch grid wire screwed to over them and/or stainless steel wool stuffed in the voids stops any little friends from visiting.

If you're seeing them under the hood, they[re not far from inside the truck.

    A. I soaked a piece of an old tee shirt in peppermint oil and stuffed it under the battery tie down. Reapply monthly. It’s let them out from under my hood for a year so far, and I had my truck barely a couple months before one chewed on my knock sensor wiring.

    B. Don’t let it sit. At least go out and crank it and run it for a bit daily, drive around the block if you can. I’ve found rodents are a bit more leery of habitating in things that move around.

    C. Get a cat.

Was chaging my air filter and found this.
Took out the air intake tube and attached a screen.
I still have to put a screen on the intake by the windshield wipers.

Here was my surprise when I did the timing belt job on my Truck. Multiple mice nest. Luckily no damage to the electrical wires.

Mom bought a new Forester 6 months ago, was driving in town when all of the lights on the dash lit up. Car still drove good but she took it to the dealership, mouse had chewed the wiring harness and they had to order a new one from Japan which was going to take 3 months.

Insurance cut her a check for $4k, she took that money and traded in for a newer Forester, probably best choice for her to avoid future issues.

Her car was sitting for almost a month while they were on a cruise so I would bet that is when this happened.

Mine sat for a week when I got hit. I live in a suburb but my house is at the edge of the neighborhood butting up against a wood line.

Sounds like I need to get some peppermint oil! I had one mouse make the 35 mile journey to work with me once. Ran across the windshield, and at 5am in the morning, thought I was seeing things. First reaction was to hit the wipers. Oops.

Used to be a tomato farmer. We used human hair nailed @ all 4 corners of a field & it kept the deer out. Had to replace the hair every 2 weeks but it worked. That peppermint oil is a helluva idea! Might have to use this too
