MT Currently running 31.5" tires may eventually go ~33"

Getting lockers and doing driveline related mods. Dec 12 installation date.

    Should I go 4.88 or 5.29?

Might want to add your intended tire size.

What is OD on those bad boys?

But for me no way is stock gearing low enough.

Stock gears and 255/85r16's I doubt your truck will be in 6th gear much. I've run them for two yrs now with 4:88s and love the combination. I think most people find that if you do a lot of hwy miles stick with the 4:88s, if you do mostly city driving stick with the 5:29s. I personally think 5:29s are to much rpm wise. That is assuming you are not going bigger than 33s. 4:88s and 33s will leave 8% better than stock 3 when said and done. One thing you might think about is that 4 lo with 5:29s will make 4lo useless unless you are wanting to actually crawl. I also tow an RV (4k) and find 60 mph, 4th gear and 3k rpm a good combination. This truck will run all day long at 3k rpm and still get 8 to 12 mpg. Most of my time is spent in the Moab and Colorado areas driving trails and mountain passes so getting there from Kansas I've spent thousands of miles to and from and won't change a thing. For full disclosure I also have OVtune and it was money well spent. Good luck!

I have dick cepek extreme country installed, I'm pretty sure manufacturer spec is 32.8"
Lifted about 1" front 1.5" rear, caster pushed forward, no Rubbing issues. Had to do a little plastic trimming on bumper and mending the fender liners. So far so good for me at the offroad parks I visit here and there.

As for gearing.. I can still cruise at low speeds in 6th gear. OVtune 87fob. Doesn't feel like a slob at all. 4lo is awesome.

This is just my experience as an offroad noob. I wanted to keep this truck simple for most of my driving which is local short trips. Highway I stick to 60-65mph to get decent mpgs.

Depending on the tire manufacturer, around 32.8"
Turns out the manual has 4.3 gears already, it's pretty nice with the 255/85s, I think.

Anytime I'm over 65 and not accelerating hard, I'm in 6th. Sounds like you're in an auto though...

Manual gearing is pretty spot on for 33s. I'd do 4.88 for 35s and 5.29 for 35+ or heavy weight hauling.

4.88 with 33's if you keep the truck light. 5.29 if you go bigger or plan to have a very heavy armored rig down the road. I have buddies running 285/75/17 Armored to the nine and very heavy and 5.29 was solid.

Yessir. Well, I did. Sold the truck about a month ago.

    This. ^

Just an opinion, but I think 4.88s would be a better choice for the manual if you’re running 33-35s.
I had 33s and was planning to move up to 35s. Then I re-geared to 5.29 and started thinking I should go up to 37s instead.
Even as low as the gearing was, it made the truck so much more enjoyable to drive over the stock gears. I would’ve loved to keep it, but priorities changed and I needed a full size truck.

Yeah thanks fellows, I started all gung ho for 5.29 but with 4.88 believe it or not 80mph is still just under 3K RPM and yet plenty of RPM range in first. 4.88 runs 2000 RPM at 10 mph and 3000 RPM is 15 mph, for example. 5.29 is 9 and 13 mph. A bit of a different way to think about it.

5.29 in the lead. Very surprising!
