My Cell Phone Mount [With Details & Review]

There are tons of threads on here that are about Cell Phone mounts but didn't have much detail to them. So, when I was researching what I wanted for my cell phone mount I was piecing stuff together I had to read a ton of threads. Some may say, "its a freaking cell phone mount, its not that difficult", but for some of us, especially those who research, plan, research, have OCD, and question everything 10x before doing something; it is took me longer than it should have. (that statement is a personal opinion, your views might differ)

Until I went with this cell phone mount configuration I was placing my phone in the dash in a vertical orientation, I placed it on top of the steering column and wedged between the steering column and underside of the top part of the dash. It fits perfectly but it does not allow for charging or ease of access (sticking your hand through the steering wheel to do something is not a good idea)

Review So far

1. It is stable as I need to be, it doesn't move over bumps or on pavement; I have not been off road since I put this cell phone mount configuration in - but they are doing heavy construction on the road leading into my development and it has bumps, potholes, cracks, uneven terrain (feel bad for the cars, especially my neighbor who daily drives an R8)
2. The X Grip mount does swivel a tiny bit by design but does not swivel when the cell phone is in the X Grip
3. It does not press against the dash
4. I can reach the Infotainment Panel fine - I have about 1.5 inches of clearance from my knuckle to bottom left X Grip Arm, but I don't place my hands where I have it in the picture while driving, just did it to show the clearance
   
5. The vent is "blocked" but I still get a steady stream of cool air/hot air - don't know why others complain, just mount the ring with the Vent Slots open (see pic)
6. I have to place the cell phone higher in the X Grip because this X Grip is for a regular Iphone, I didn't go with the Large, because if I mount it with top and bottom portions of the cell phone with even reveals, the arms of the X Grip press on the volume down button and bottom of the power button on an iPhone X
7. I can see why Hondo Garage Sells the longer socket arm (pics will show better than I can explain) but I am ok with the clearance
8. Hondo Garage is freaking awesome to deal with, their automated emails, shipping, and communication is some of the best I have come across in a long time; for being a "small" vendor it is even more impressive

From seeing other pics, I didn't realize you could mount the Hundo ring with the vent completely open. No trimming required to do that?

 

yes, no trimming required.

Thanks man, I have a 3D printer and strongly considered doing what you did. I might go that route eventually when/if I start adding more equipment so I can configure my layout the way I envision it.

Thanks. You beat me to the answer. Others have solutions that work fine for them. I just didn't like anything being blocked even partially.

 

Oh right. I remember this. I like it except it looks like it would move around when of road.

 

I’m not sure why, but do you have a pic with the phone in the mount lol? Completes the package for me haha. I have the hondo Mount en route currently from another member.

 

I will get one for you when I get home Friday. I thought about it, then I was like, hmmm get the other half's cell phone...it was so far away, nahhh, lol.

 

Doesn't move around on me. The truck mount has 3m adhesive underneath. I have it so a taped steel piece on the back of the phone mount attaches to the magnet on the truck mount. So I can explicitly detach and move it if need be. But you can ditch the magnet parts and just use adhesive to it make really immoveable.

Works for me. YMMV.

Nice! I have mine coming. Only thing I did differently was I ordered this in the 4” https://www.67d.com/collections/cf-carbon-fiber-series/products/cf-carbon-fiber-series-fixed-arm. I’m not sure if I’ll like it or not lol, but my thoughts were it should put the phone right about steering wheel distance so if I have to do anything on the phone it might be a touch more convenient. I’ll let you know

Case and ballhead mount. Button problem solved and no giant X on your dash. Easier to mount phone and more secure when mounted. Run them on my motorcycle as well.

 

Yeah, but that requires you to use their phone case. I'm not giving up my UAG phone case.

They do have a universal stick on your own case deal. My motorcycle mount was what really drove the purchase. It is really secure and rather sleek compared to others.
