Then it would be listed under "safety features" in the service manual and not "transmission shift interlock" like it actually is. :p

But seriously, that is a common thing for almost every vehicle on the road today that uses a BTSI system so that you can't shift out of park unless your foot is on the brake.

I had a 1997 Oldsmobile that had the same interlock, so it's not new. Never had this issue with my vehicles, but good to know that's the fix..and especially where the override switch is.

I'm not sure I would want those coming on automatically. I have similar lights for MTB night riding, and they are bright. I would wire a separate switch, personally.

Something people don't always remember is the inrush of current caused by the led driver. If it's anything like the led's we use at work, they are rated to draw an amp or two, but can draw up to 50 amps for a few hundredths of a second while warming up, so that's what the circuit over current protection is designed for. Using the reverse lights to fire a relay to run the led back up lights is a good idea.

I'm having the same problem, but my brake lights are intermittent and so is the ability the shift out of park. I suspect a sensor that isn't fully engaged all the time when applying the brake. I can usually get it to work after "pumping" the brakes a few times. I'll be looking under the dash soon and see what I can find.

10 years ago brake light cut out switches were starting to get popular on cop cars, and we would regularly get guys who would call in for a tow truck, stating that their transmission was locked in park. Invariably they had the brake light cut out switch on, and the brake lights wouldn't work. Once they shifted into "P" for whatever reason, that was it. No shifting into "D" with the cut out switch on.
