Not what I wanted to find out about the service history of my truck

So good used Toyota trucks are hard to find up here in Alaska. I needed to upgrade from my old '90 pickup and was happy to find a good deal on craigslist for a 2005 Tacoma. Overall it has been a great truck with just a couple of minor annoyances, (like the timing chain oil leak and weak leaf springs).

Today I signed up to the Toyota website to see if I was eligible for the clock spring fix (I am btw). I did not know that the service history was available online so I did some reading to see what the problems have been.

CarFax was clean and the previous owner did not mention anything about this. I did do a check of the vehicle before I bought it and did not see anything out of the ordinary so maybe he got it fixed. I guess I will go out and crawl under the truck after work and look to see if I can find the crack and broken motor mounts :(

The truck has been running fine like this for about a year now so hopefully I won't find anything bad when I crawl underneath to take a look. Maybe this explains why the top of my driver's side door rattles a little bit and does not close tightly like the passenger side door.

    Sigh...

You can't rely on car fax to always have the information. All they have are records that are officially reported. If a body shop or a mechanic shop do not report repairs to CarFax, then the history report will not show it. Even some dealerships don't report to CarFax.
