Another update: metal shavings and some very muddy/dark transfer fluid inside the t-case. Hopefully there’s some way I can figure out getting a new one of some sort. :(

Yeah I know enough to have them not scam me on anything. The transfer-case is the only thing I need to be worrying about right now, and nothing else

At work so a little slow but yes as shown above, you'll see the sensor there or not at all.

Your spindles will have a bracket as well for it on the front.

Don’t have that big ass module in my engine bay. Don’t think I Have abs, I’ve always wondered what that hole in the engine bay/wheel well was for

CA is pretty hard and I found several; I just decided to get a transfer case+transmission combo.

Check craigslist, forums, facebook, pick n pull, car-part, junkyard, ksl, tons of choices....think you're giving up prematurely.

the shop that I’m taking it to doesn’t install transfer cases that I find/bring into them, so I’ll have to keep my eye out for some.

Multiple people have used a jack and 2x4s to rest their transmission+transfer case on. Not ideal but as long as the vehicle is safely supported you'll be good to go.

I'd say do the job yourself; you could also knock out the rear main seal since you'll be there anyway.

I’m honestly not in a good situation to be doing it myself. I don’t have a whole lot of tools and all I have is my bottle jack. I would rather rely on a shop to do it and have them have a bit of a warranty on the work they do. I’ll do more research on where the best place to have people do it at would be though

J shift aren't often found in 4R but yeah that'll work.

    It'll be a 23 spline count, as I've never seen a 4 cylinder 4x4 3rd Gen 4R (they only exist as a 6 cylinder 4x4 right?)

The thread has aged and I'm just not sure what motor the OP has; just wanted to make it easy for him to know what to look for.

LSD was never a thing in 1st gens anyway

You need 26 spline then, and if I'm correct, that tcase won't directly swap cause I've only seen 4 cylinder 4Runners available in 4x2
