Start recieving part to proceed with this mod on my Taco 2012. Got pair of Sienna mirrors from Amazon for 50$ each. when I removed mirror and looked at the back plate, I realized that they were not real OEM. I thought no big deal I just need the heating pad. Spliting the glass from back plate and heating pad was just a pain. Was very careful, heated the whole assembly but at the end, glass cracked and could not save the pads. 100$ down the shoot. Now getting a bit worried if I carry on with this. Currently seeking to get Universal heating pads. Anyone tried those? wonder if 4Runner 2012 mirror would be a one-to-one replacement. 4Runner has signal lens and heat combination just like my Taco 2012. Still, I just can't put in my mind a valid reason why Toyota do not provide such a basic option on the Taco but only on all other models... even the 2013 do not have it. will persevere...

    >>>*UPDATE* FOR THE THOSE WITH TRD-OR TACOS (with no switch blanks) <<<

    So, a new member
bgreenley (Brandon) contacted me regarding my inquiry to find a solution for TRD OR trucks that don't have switch blank by the steering wheel. We went back and forth bouncing ideas off each-other, trying to piece together a method that would work. He put together this awesome write-up as a supplemental addition to the OEM Heated Mirror Mod! Original Thread located HERE (http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd...d-package.html)

    Mad props to
bgreenley for putting this together, and making it work. Make sure to give him some rep, and welcome him as a new TW Member!!! :headbang:

Def going to do this mod. Even better that the 2012 *Highlander* mirrors are a direct fit! Doesn't get more factory looking then this mod.

Edited so no one else gets confused, I did mean the Highlander mirrors not sienna's. Thanks BensonX.

Removed the dealer tag holder…that’s it.
I finally got my heated mirrors installed with integrated turn signals. I used MuthCo mirrors and the OEM heated mirror switch and a lot of patience and wiring. I fused everything through my homemade breaker box (pelican case and relays, more wires). It only took me a few hours, once the weather cooperated and I had time at home. I took this little project and made a few adjustments to adapt it to what I wanted. BensonX, you did an awesome write-up and made my life easier when formulating a "game plan" to get this stuff installed. I also used your hidden CB install thread to put mine in. I attached a few pics for everyone to see. I will add better pictures later, maybe even write up a build page for the turn signaled mirrors as a supplement to this thread.

I have a video of the working mirrors that I can't upload, because I'm at work. It really all came together and worked like a charm. Thanks BensonX!

Do you mean the 2012 Highlander Mirrors? Those ones are a direct-fit for '05-'13 Tacos. Just wanted to make sure you don't order the wrong ones.

Awesome man, looks great! I like your DIY fuse-block, that's pretty smart right there. There's talk of trying to get a Meet 'n Eat going for us PNW folks, check out the NW Meet Thread for more info., it would be cool to meet more local guys.

I bought the Highlander mirrors and spent 2 hours tonight in 30deg C. heat putting just one on the drivers side and getting the wires run into the cab. Quite the job getting the wires through both the door and into the mirror. Leaving the passenger for next week. Other than that the new mirror snapped right in.:D

Got the passenger side done last night and decided to wire everything up tonight.
Problem - I ordered a highlander switch from another board member and just looked at it and there are only 4 wires - so I'm thinking a backlight but not dimmed and everything else is the same ?
    Any ideas ?

So the switch you bought has pre-terminated pigtails plugged-in?

Which 4 wires are connected? You should have (2) illumination leads; 1 for the indicator light, and 1 to illuminate the "mirror picture"

There is really no "specific" color code.

If the guy used the Toyota OEM pigtails, they will all be green - otherwise, it whateve color wire he decided to use. You can reference the diagram that CtryBoyInMT to determine which 4 of the 5 your have plugged in:

Well I could have the equivalent of 1,2,3,4 or 5,4,3,2 if you get my drift. From the bottom I have dark green, green w.yellow trace, red w.black trace, and white w.black trace - its supposed to be a highlander switch and the leads are just cut off leaving a couple of inches of wire that should be the stock colors -anyone got a wiring schematic for a highlander :)
I'll hook it up tomorrow night, painting shed now -
30deg C and I don't feel like crawling under the dash

Okay, got it. Since this was removed form an actual Highlander, the wiring path may be different from this mod.

So the bottom Green wires are def. the Illuminaiton wires. Looking at the wiring diagram in the OP, you are most-likely missing a pigtail for #5 which connects to Relay #30. I would continue with your install and just connect another pig-tail to #5.

You can get an OEM Toyota terminal lead for abut $5 form the dealer. Part No. 82998-12340

Hope this helps, but feel free to post/PM with any other ???S or concerns. Good Luck

If that terminal lead has 5 wires I'd need another switch as well. I'll see what happens tomorrow night - no worries, rum fixes all. :)

If the switch is this part # 84871-48030 and looks like this:
[IMG] then, you should be good to go.
