Is the glass from the 2012 Tacoma mirrors the same as previous years or did they change?

Good question. I can find out this week as a couple of my co-workers have '11 and earlier Tacos.

Mike, I'll try to get you an answer as early as Monday night.

No worries, I was just curious. Those look like you can just pop them into place. I already ordered Sienna glass and will have to modify the stock plastic slightly but it'll work. Might be good to know for future retrofitters though.

That's awesome! Thanks for your help. This will save a couple steps for those installing in their '12+ Tacos. The heating element looks to be more robust design as well.

According to a couple other members who compared the dimensions, the glass on the '05-'11 models may be slightly larger by a few 16ths of an inch. That seems minimal to me, and when comparing the Highlander/New Taco backplate, it's the same as the earlier Taco models.

In my opinion, the Highlander Heated Mirrors could essentially be a pop-in replacement for any year Taco.

The Highlander Mirror part #s are:

    Driver's Side: 87961-0E070
    Passenger Side: 87931-0E080

Are you serious? Check out page 1.

I believe only the Limited will have Chrome signal-mirrors, but I don't think they have heat :notsure:

Well, I finally finished my heated mirrors yesterday.. it took me about 6 hours. That was a few hours on Sunday and finishing up yesterday.

Good news about the Highlander mirrors, they WILL WORK as a direct drop-in to all second generation Tacos 2005-2013. That means you don't have to remove the factory backer plate from your second gen Taco, just snap it in after plugging in the terminals. It doesn't matter if you have turn signals or not, it didn't interfere with my signal lights.

One thing about the amber replacement bulb in the first post from Benson X... I bought it when I ordered the parts, but in my case (2012 truck) the lighted switch needs to remain with the green bulb (like all other indicator bulbs in the truck) supplied in the swich. The amber light that indicates your heat is functioning will glow amber and the indicator will glow green.

About the terminals on the mirror heat grid.... they use only the .110" size on on each, so I didn't need the .187" size.

I hope this helps out any 2012+ Taco owners doing this awesome mod Benson started.

BTW, the mirrors heat up to 110 degrees F!

Thanks again to the pioneers of the heated mirrors here. :D

Great news! I will update the OP with the Highlander Mirror part #s.

I'm a little confused about your explanation why Amber Bulb is not needed. Are all the switches in the '12+ green, or was that just a fashion preference. If I understand you correctly, looking at the switch; the "mirror" picture will glow amber regardless of the bulb, but you preferred the rectangular light indicator to glow green?

The terminals are indicated in the OP as being .110", but I used the .187" quick-connect terminals to tap into the the illum. wires from the fog-lamp switch. That's the reason they are listed.

Did this still involve all the wireing done in the OP?

or was it a little more plug and play?

I probably spoke too soon there. The '12 (in my case) have a light green glow on all lighted switches. Amber on the 'heat activated' switch, yes, I have it original.... I also wasn't clear earlier. I now see the earlier ones have amber on all lighted switches.

Ahh, I get it now.

All Tacos have no provisions for future mirror heat, wiring is user supplied and installed.

Okay, I didn't realize they changed the illum. color of the switches on the newer models. I get what your saying now.

I updated the OP to included the new Highlander part #s. Thanks for the heads-up on that. It will definitely save some time for future modders!

I just got my Sienna mirrors from Camelback Toyota and got them swapped into the Tacoma backings. This weekend I hope to get the wiring completed and get them installed and running on an OEM Highlander switch. :D

Ouch! Yeah, I'm skipping the Highlander switch - for about $125 less, I'm going with an orange illuminated duckbill switch in the blank beside the mirror control until the right deal comes along.
