    I bought my 2012 when it had 91,xxx miles on the clock, it currently has 95, xxx. I want to do its first oil change myself this weekend, am I OK to do the change every 5k miles and if so, what oil brand and viscosity and filter do yall recommend?? Thank you!!

    I change mine every 5k with mobil 1 filter and mobil 1 synthetic. No issues

    5k miles is the recommended interval. The Toyota filter is better than most aftermarket filters and inexpensive. Use whatever 5W30 or 0W30 oil on sale in your area; oil brand doesn't really matter in these trucks and there are as many preferences as assholes (or however that saying goes): https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/what-oil-is-everyone-using.650430/ Avoid 0W20 however.

    The 4.0 is not picky at all about oil choice. You can run just about any 5w30 synthetic or conventional, I typically run whatever synthetic is on sale. The OEM Toyota filter is also not some magical special filter everybody here makes it out to be. I've ran Denso, Fram (XG line) and currently using Hastings LF589 filters. Any name brand filter will suit you well.
