So I edited my post for the record. Gen 2 kit from toytech and clarified my errors in attempting to describe Upper Control Arms (UCA).

I guess I'll try to get back on track. Is the major price difference due to the difference in price for an AAL vs. complete leaf pack? If I'm not towing, are the Dakars overkill?

Consensus seems to be replace UCA.

Yea price difference is for the leaf pack, if you add dakars to your order from toytec it is like $400 more. Best price i have seen on a full OME kit is from down south motorsports, $1149 shipped to your door. Shipping get expensive with the heavy leaf springs

Yeah, that accounts for the difference in price. Daks versus AAL is tough. Daks can ride rough without a load on them. I sold the Daks from my kit to a buddy and his DCSB does ride a little stiff (like a truck should though). A lot of guys are pulling a leaf out of the Daks. Not sure if that is to improve ride or to decrease the height. Wheelers sells a heavy duty 3 leaf AAL now too. Maybe that is a way to comprise between the Daks and AAL.

I did this, mainly to reduce the height so my truck sits closer to level. But it probably softened up the ride a little also. I am really happy with the daks, not to stiff at all for me.

Another thing to consider. I bet the stock leaf pack will wear out long before those Daks do....even with an AAL on the stock pack. Especially if you have a non-TSB pack. Just my two cents.

Rugged ridge isolator kit.
.5" spacers are way way too much. Use the .25" spacers, remove 3rd leaf if you are running dakars and you will be within 1/16" from level.

I'm wanting to do the same thing. Your 23-3/8" measurement and a more compliant ride is what I'm shooting for.
How hard is to remove that third from the bottom leaf?

Its very simple just use a big c-clamp or two to clamp the leafs together. Remove the nuts and bolts i think 3 of them. Pay attention to which way they go together, do one leaf pack at a time and you wont have any problem. Release the clamps and they come right apart, there really isnt much tension. Only advice would be do it somewhere clean so you dont get debris in between the leafs which will lead to squeking. Oh ya and dont use a impact on the centering pin bolt, i stripped a nut when i did lol, the centering pin nut doesnt even have to be very tight because your u-bolts will help clamp everything together. Either one will be the same process wether you remove the third leaf down or the top overload. I would assume removing the 3rd leaf will reduce the lift more than removing the 2nd overload. OME says -3/4 but i think removing the 3rd leaf reduced my lift by 1-1 1/2 inches.

Do you like rake? If so get the Dakars. If not get the Dakars and pull a leaf.
885s will give you over 2.5" and Dakars will give somewhere around 3".
I got a full 3" from 885s on my 4Banger AC & run stock UCAs.
With a good alignment guy he will get you close to spec if not in spec on caster (I'm close but not in spec & it has no driving problems i.e. high speed wander or bump steer).

A good alternative from what I've heard.

    I don't tow & love the Dakars.

i'll have to order those seperately, 4wheelparts doesn't carry those in their kits. 100$ freight shipping here was the reason for going with them.

    good looking out Oz :p
