What I was thinking as well.

882s on a 3rz will be more than you’d need as is. I’ve got 881s, plate bumper, winch, and on 5100s. I use the Tundra 5100s and 3rd of 4 setting I think it is. So I do have some preload with the 881s. Bumper and steel wire on winch was right at 190#. I went with the lighter spring and 5100s because I didn’t know how long before I’d actually do a bumper and it was a couple of years. If I ever replace them it’ll be the 882s.

I appreciate you affirming that the 882s are the right call with the fact that I’m doing bumper with the lift and then a winch probably a month or two after.

The real question is JBA, SPC, or Icon UCA's and why? Cruiser outfitters said SPC. I feel like I've read a lot of amazing things about the alignment with SPC but sooooo many issues with quality (mostly in the ball joints) and before you say there's always some that slip through QC I am taking this into account (I've read a lot of threads on this now). With JBA I've read some rust issues but most people seem to recommend them they seem the least problematic and the most straight forward which from an engineers perspective is usually the best course. Anyone got opinions on Icons? Would love to hear what people are running and what alignment stories yall have with these. Thanks!

SPC had issues with their ball joints before the redesign. Personally, have had no issues with them at all - installed March 2019. Keep em greased (every oil change or after dusty conditions). Don't recall reading about any issues with their redesign either but I haven't sought them out.

I don't have any experience with Icon.

As for JBA, I will never consider them simply based on the way they handled their customer service side of things during the shortage/issue they had not that long ago with their UCAs. Lots of unanswered emails, delayed responses, etc.

I don’t get it. The bushings are 1 1/4 in outside diameter and the opening is 1 1/8. I’ve either got the wrong bushings or I’m losing my mind. I cut them out today and had to use a metal punch to remove the pins. Ordered a poly set but none of the specs actually state the diameters. You are using the OME B121’s?

Sorry just to follow up here.

    Currently have a 03 DCCB, 4x4 with 3.4L.
I have a ss skid plate that a member use to make on here. ARB bumper and a topper.

    Just bought oem lbjs.

I was looking at old emu for a lift kit. They recommend the heavy spec because of the arb.

Other than that, I am thinking, TC UCAs, rebuild the lower control arms with white line bushings, new lbjs. No really going to be wheeling a lot lol. I just love the look of a off road to truck. But do plan on camping just want to save up for a gfc or a good roof tent.

So I'm chasing down a few question marks I had on upgrades and one of them is the correct coils I should be running. With the added weight of the 4WD swap, doublecab 6cyl, ARB and plan to add sliders and a winch - these 881s are going to be really feeling it.

Checked in with ARB USA Support via phone. After a quick rundown of what I currently have on the truck - he said quite frankly,

"881s are the MAX spring we offer for the first gen tacoma. People run 882s and 883s but they aren't meant for the first gen tacoma."

    Say what Jared? o_O

Ended call w Jared (I think he wanted to GTFO and go to lunch) and called up Wheeler's instead. I ordered the full kit from them back in 2018. Asked if Josh was still around but he isn't with them any longer. Sucks, he was a cool dude who enjoyed talking with the customer. Anyway, the rep I spoke with said the 881s I should definitely replace and he suggested the 882s. He said the 883s would work but would produce a rougher ride and potentially mess with my CVs. I asked about the trim packer (currently have a 5mm on the driver's side) and he said it should be the same.

So looks like I'm going to order up the 882s.

Will report back once everything is here and on the truck.

See this is the problem with these OME products. Conflicting information everywhere, even from the damn manufacturer.

I just did a full Ome kit on my 96 3rz extra cab. I did 882’s up front and Dakar rear leafs and even removed the biggest overload leaf in the rear and it still has a descent rake. It is on the tall side but I’m assuming will settle some overall. I’m running 33’s with a zero offset and and 1.25 spacers so overall maybe a -31 ish. I also installed jba arms. With its current height I think uca’s are almost a must

You'll be happy with the 882's. 883's are way too stiff for anything. But that being said, there will be a few that disagree, simply because they run them (883's) and haven't tried anything else and have nothing to compare them with. :)

Surprised he said that. I just checked their website and it looks like dated information. I think they are still listing the old part number for the leaf springs. It only shows a kit with 880 and 881 for the 1st gen Tacoma so maybe he went with that. In most instances, I feel like phone support is more miss than hit unfortunately.

Well, as expected the entire order I placed with Wheeler's for fully assembled 882 coilovers is fuxored.

I had added a 5mm trim packer to the order and requested it be added to the assembly. I not only requested by email but also verbally. I received 2 tracking numbers and 1 was for 44lbs the other was for 1lb. I called them up and asked Trent to verify they installed the trim packer since it still hadn't been collected by UPS. He checks and says the assembly guys downstairs said they assembled it with the trim packer, it's on the dock and will soon be on its way. Said the 1lb package was spacers that ARB places on the coils. huh?

Sure as shit, they shipped out of Fresno and not Grant's Pass, OR. 1 was out for delivery yesterday but never arrived and the other was misrouted to a city 150 miles away. So what shows up today? Yep. The trim packer with a bunch of stickers. Coilovers are MIA and UPS has started a "trace" to locate it. Thanks for lying about the assembly guys downstairs Trent. Ya can keep your stickers bud.

Now I get to call them on Monday and tell them to ship out a correctly assembled set along with a shipping label in case this other one shows up.

Shipping issue isn't their fault, I get that but first the crap quality speed sensor and now this screwup with assembly... Sure do miss the old Wheeler's OffRoad.

EDIT: Was essentially given the shaft by WO. Told they had to file a claim with UPS before I would receive a credit or replacement. I can completely understand if it were a case of a "delivered" scan but it only shows as "Preparing for Delivery". Not my fault. Whatever, lesson learned.

Man that sucks! Sorry to hear your luck. I haven’t had any slip ups like this yet, but I’m weary every time I place an order.

Since my coilovers vanished in transit (UPDATE to this as of 12/21), I've been trying to locate another vendor to order from since Wheeler's is taking their sweet time resolving my order.

I can't find anyone else who is configuring with 882s anymore. Even ARB only shows 880 and 881 as an option. Wonder why the change? Perhaps ARB finally pulled the plug on 882s and the first gen simply due to lack of demand/sales? Headstrong only lists 880, 881 & 883

Don't forget an extended brake line for the rear and a BPV bracket (or make your own).

Ordering from Wheelers? Hard to f-up a leaf pack but they botched the assembly of my coilovers and then lied about it. Just FYI if dealing/planning on doing business with them. Their customer service is severely lacking these days.

Highly recommend you check out cruiser outfitters. In my opinion they are the best in the business when it comes to OME and understanding the different configurations and exactly what will work the best on our trucks depending on what you’re trying to accomplish. Cruiser outfitters.com
