I'd bet money that's at least part of the reason he did it.

Well we have our own CNC machine so it's not out of the realm of possibility :). I need to find a CNC guy though before we dive this deep into it.

doing cams on this engine is a NIGHTMARE

You know as well as I how that's going to work. lol! How often do you post something for the first time, load it on the machine, hit the button and just walk away?

Fair enough, I never had the luxury and always proofed the program while standing at the machine.

    Injectors are here. Dyno time.
We can discuss CNC fun later via zendesk.

If you have CNC experience (design) and are interested, zendesk me.

I'll happily make parts you want and pay you for your time.

That's a bummer about the cams because getting the right lobe on these would definitely open the realm of possibilities for the use of these trucks.

Glad to hear though you guys have the capability to make a new hpfp. You'll hurt a lot of feelings when you can really turn the boost up. I'm sure you guys already have ideas bouncing around for forged internals(better than what's in there) but I know a great engine builder that'd love to take this on with you :) he's got quite the pedigree and highboost applications are his bread and butter

There were 11 second gen guys who did a group buy for customized cams a few months ago. They went through Kelford Cams out of New Zealand and recently got them delivered. It appears that around half of them have gotten them installed with mixed results. I think @Torspd was the first to install his and I think that he had some complications. He has a built engine with an EFR 9180 turbo which is good for 1000HP and I think that is his goal. The link for the Kelford Cams group buy is below.

Bilstein 6112 front / 5100 rear (extended) shocks, Headstrong AAL, Firestone airbags, 4.88 gears, OME Carrier bearing drop kit, Aluminum 1/4" skids (engine to transfer). Custom sliders (1.75" HREW tube w/ 3/16" base plates). Custom front bumper and high clearance rear bumper (1/4" steel plate, 1.75" tube.) Apex 5500 winch w/synthetic line (36lbs) and required accessories for an underpowered winch (snatch blocks and extra line.) Tekonsha P3 brake controller, remote start, any-time-backup camera w/ front facing camera, Leer 100R shell (w/e-track single slot tie-down mounts for removable Yakima EasyTop.) Cat shields by CaliRaised. Husky liners, window tint, heated seat (passenger only.) Relentless bed rail brackets with QuickFists (shovel/axe/fire extinguisher.) Hondo Garage Un-holey vent mount. Anytime rear with front facing camera. Billet front seat risers. Viair 88p. 265/75r16 Goodyear Ultra-terrain tires.
Interesting stuff. Personally I'm not interested in opening up my engine at this time and just want boost to get reasonable torque out of the Tacoma.

Making worthwhile cams for this engine will be difficult, when you think:
You need 4 cams, and the install.
Gains would have to be huge to be worth it.

I'll post a pic of our powermax kit engine bay in a bit :)

So, on base pressure mode from the pump the port injectors flow 650cc, at high pressure mode they flow 775cc

The fuel pressure ramping at certain points is actually annoying. Makes me wonder too why the he'll Toyota needed a pump and tune that can supply additional fuel pressure....................

No complications. Fit flawlessly. Depending on how much lift and duration you get, new springs and possibly larger reliefs in the pistons are necessary. That'd be a lot of lift though.

Stupid, stupid design to provide additional fuel by just increasing fuel pressure. Stupid. No consistency.

I bet they did it because stock pump is just taxed to death at base pressure and 12 injectors.

How can we keep this cheap guys? Throw more voltage at the pump lmao

I would imagine it's just a cost cutting measure. Higher flow pump would be more expensive I imagine. Duration of higher pressure demands for performance are limited for the stock tune so they could get away with just cranking pressure intermittently maybe?
