Yeah people are going to lose their shit. But sometimes habits are hard to break...this doesn't look good and again I think this thread should be closed.

I deleted it, but it is absolutely relevant since it is a demonstration of a willingness to file Chapter 7 to discharge debts and have no assets to disburse to their creditors. People were discussing that concern specifically, so I felt it was relevant. I didn't post it yesterday when I dug it up.

I doubt he responds, seemed oddly offended by the dog and bbq pictures in this thread on the T4R mega-post he typed.

Might have to post a picture of a cat rolling around in kale and couscous to appease him.

A lot of mods to a 2017 truck.....
Not strange at all to have that information. The writer openly states he got it from Tyler and Satin (emphasis mine) and unfortunately is probably doing the Pelfreys MUCH more harm than good (assuming it not all made up, BS):

"Please note, these are my observations and opinions based on information I have received from Tyler and Satin in the brief talks I’ve had with them since this all went down." "I did talk to Tyler and Satin briefly last night, and they are devastated that this is happening."

    Some real non-sense here:

"But they weren’t using pre-order money to fund the new development, they were burning through investor cash and credit to get product development done and production up and running."

Yeah, the cash part of cash-flow just vanished.

The writer states 6 reasons for Pelfrey's problems:

    1. Perfectionism
    2. R&D is expensive
    3. Communication
    4. Growth Management
    5. Material price increases
    6. Sales Down
Only one of those in not in the direct control of Pelfrey. Even that one can be 'indirectly' controlled. For example, I recall another popular fabricator here stating that he had found a new steel vendor, made a buy of steel, and not too long after that, with steel price in hand announced a "sale".

This writer, as one of the Pelfrey communiques does, alludes to "investors" in the present tense. In this case "When sales drop and prices increase, investors freak out and pull their wallets back in. Be ready for more of your beloved boutique shops to close shop in the next year if policies don’t change." "they were burning through investor cash and credit to get product development done and production up and running." So the company was using not saved profit, but investment $ to expand and operate? Sounds like a bad SharkTank. Where did your $ go?

Expand into a new shop? Buy and outfit a Tundra with all the bells and whistles? But orders are down and costs are up? Where do you think your $ went?

Quoting again: "This is a defense of Tyler and Satin as people, who have both lost EVERYTHING, and I mean EVERYTHING, trying to bring the best product to this community." A VERY sad thing, if true. We all make mistakes and I am sure everyone involved and watching sincerely hope that the family (the real one, not the marketing BS business one) lands on their feet.

Perhaps this quote will give them that chance, "Their only concern at this point is to get the production lines back up and get customers orders filled as quickly as possible. Tyler won’t even be drawing a salary as part of the start up plan. This is not about continuing as they were, this is about humbly asking to be given the chance to make good on their word. I’m sure they will, after a decision is made on Tuesday, release a full statement about the future."

Those who have $ in the pot did not mis-manage, over-expand, and spend the company out of business; including pre-payments for goods. My prediction is that it's going to be a long road.

AND....at least one poster here has said that he was encouraged to use cash not a credit card "to avoid the CC fees". YIKES!

    Yeah.
This is not abnormal. Some vendors (especially government agencies) actually charge more to use a credit card. If you ask any small business whether they would like you to pay in cash or card, the standard answer is that it saves them money if you pay cash.

Maybe we should take a survey and maybe solve it all, who would be willing to pay an additional 20% to get order over being out all of it?

TW buyers could become the "investor" that they need.

Heck if I was out there, set up a go fund me for it.

I don’t have a dog in this race, but as a consumer, Hell no.

It would be throwing more wood on top of a sinking ship. As a consumer, I would have agreed to pay a determined price for goods. If they can’t provide, I’ll take my money elsewhere. If I paid a deposit, and they need even more cash, I’ll work on getting a refund. More cash mid-order will not solve poor financial and business decisions.

You need the business and management to know where to put that wood (money) and save the ship. It can’t just be thrown wherever.

You are quite correct in a given context. For example, if I wend to Demello's or Mobtown's site today and I say that posted as part of the purchase, I MIGHT bite. And it would be difficult to prove they had any other motivation than that stated (saving $ to bring costs down).

However, if the notice started to only appear when the company (Pelfrey) knew there were cash issues and that they were aware that cash payments cannot be recovered like CC can be - that might be a different kettle of fish. NOTE: I am NOT accusing them of this as I don't have the information needed. But Michael, now strangely under an NDA, probably does.

Make no mistake I currently have two pre paid orders open with Tacoma World vendors in excess of $2K. If I smelled anything fishy (like this) I would assume it IS a fish. But that's me, I've got a low tolerance for gambling.

In most cases that fee is included in the cost and if you pay cash the vendor will give a discount. It seems like with them it doesn't benefit you to pay cash.

If there is anything TW has taught me, it’s that any vendor at any time can go up in smoke.

    Yeah.
Well, I'd say in *most* cases the price is the same however you pay. In *some* cases, like with government agencies, you pay more when using a credit card. And, as you said, in some cases a vendor will give you a discount if you pay cash. They may not advertise it, so it's always a good idea to ask for that discount on big purchases if you are paying cash. If they don't give you a discount, just use a credit card, get the points, and pay off the card.

While maybe a little odd, I don't see much wrong with their request.

That's very true, and in any business. I thought they would be one of the last in this segment.

With vendors or manufacturers it is common to be given a cash payment discount. Similarly, if they provide free shipping on a product and you offer to pick up they will provide a discount on that. I interpret it as the company either eating the cost themselves or rolling the additional cost into the product. It seems like with Pelfreybilt they had no incentives to not use CC other than them not losing that 3%. The only party that benefited paying cash for their products was them.

Are you seriously still at it? Your reputation isn’t fantastic, and you’re flaming other people now for being upset about being in the hole for thousands. Get a grip.

This company didn’t do anything personal for you except help you spend money on your truck. Consider yourself lucky you weren’t on island and part of the massive group buy that is getting boned right now. It’s easy to have your rose tinted glasses perspective when all you have is the wrong set of sliders because you don’t know what size bed you have, or how to not back into a tree.
