Since they changed mine the DRL section of lens is no longer amber colored, but now the lens is clear and the bulb itself is amber. Is that what you mean? I'm not sure what "original to the OR" means?

My original lights on my Off Road have a smoked lens. Dealer mistakenly installed clear.

This is the end of my story with the DTRL. Dealership installed the correct, new design, smoked, headlight assemblies (both) under the extended warranty.

The new design headlight assemblies have a clear glass lens in front of the DTRL where the old had yellow plastic. I am happy with the look and don't feel like LEDs are necessary to prevent melting now.

You do not have DRL and your headlamps are not damaged. You do not qualify for the Warranty Enhancement replacement. That is why they didn't "help you out." And is I recall on the paperwork when they did my warranty replacement the bill was over $1,000.

Going by my local dealership tomorrow to check on replacing mine. I've got some patrons of the restaurant I manage who just had theirs replaced. No hassle. They said the lights on their truck looked just like mine. Their truck is an '08. Should be smooth sailing.....

Swung by today. They tried to give me a little run around but I related some info I had and told them I knew some people who had the exact same issue fixed by them recently. End result is headlights are ordered. 2-3 weeks to get them and then they'll install. $0 out of pocket. Hell yeah!

Just curious- Do the new ones with the clear lens and amber bulbs look comparable to the old design when on? I'm hoping it doesn't just look like I slapped an amber bulb in there. Thanks!

The DTRL lens is clear. See DES2009s pics. Good example of before and after.

The new light assemblies are absolutely gorgeous and aren't super star wars if that is what you are concerned about. Just a minor change in the orange light area.

Thanks everyone. I'm stoked on getting new lights. Mine are starting to oxidize. And I'm assuming they'll be aligned nicely too. Mine have been a bit out of whack ever since I lifted my truck.

My truck will be 10 years old next month and I had this done today at a local dealership with no issues at all. They checked the VIN to make sure I was covered by the recall. The parts were available and it took less then 2 hours to complete. Very happy Tacoma owner :)

I had mine done a week or so ago. They seem to be fine although they don't turn off automatically anymore....Hmmm I need to investigate that further.

Did they work fine after they were replaced? How soon after did you notice the malfunction and what do you do to turn them off?

The lights work just fine. I noticed they didn't turn off automatically right after I got my truck back. I was pretty sure they used to turn off when I armed/locked my truck with my keyfob. I just turn them off with the light stalk but I need to remember to do it. Pretty sure the lights can be turned on now whether the key is in or not too. I'll investigate/mess with them tomorrow and get a better description of their current operation.

Alright. It would appear that my lights now work autonomously from my key. Sat in the truck, removed my key and locked it with the fob. I was able to turn the lights on and off. Maybe they've always been that way? I could've sworn the headlights(if left on) would turn off when I locked my truck with the fob before having them replaced.

Edit: Just looked around a bit. Yep, my truck used to automatically turn off the lights after removing the key and opening the driver's side door. I'll call the dealership who replaced them tomorrow and see what's up.

I have a question that others might have a well.

I have an '09 OR that falls in the VIN range and my DRL lenses are melted and cracked. I will be going in to the dealership on Monday to speak with them about replacing my headlights. My question is, which part numbers are the correct headlamp assy with the smoked housing. On the TSB it has 4 part number/ descriptions. There are two for the RH side and two for the LH side. On two of them under the description it has Sport. Would these be the assy with the smoked housing. I just want to have done my home work when I go talk to them on Monday.

Forum member "was209" had smoked headlights replaced in an earlier post. His dealer had first installed the clear headlights by mistake. His posts about this start here.

I bought my '08 in Nov. of 2012 and it has this problem. I should be able to get this done for free then right?
