I called the POP n Lock manufacture and found out that you are correct. The PL5300 is the correct lock and will be released at the end of this month.

    Thanks,
    Mike

I bought my '09 taco last October. Pop and Lock has said "available at the end of the month" since November.

I have an Extang cover that latches from the underside so I am concerned about installing an electric lock should it fail. One option if you don't want the camera is that you can pick up an '05 -'08 tailgate handle and use the lock for that handle.

I am not giving up on the camera just yet since all '09s are prewired for the camera. I just wish Pop & Lock would hurry up. :)

Any update? I just checked a website that listed Mid June as the release date, seems that every month that goes by, it just keeps getting extended. But I'm interested to see what the real deal is since there has been a group buy... Anyone with an update?

It's frustrating for me to wait as I am in the same boat, I called P&L in Oct and was told it would be out in a month of two and here we are. I mostly feel bad for those in the group buy. I can't believe that as a manufacturer they can't have a better outlook and the "one more month" response gets old after the 6th month... I hope P&L gets thier act together soon...

I would just put an electric one.

I have installed a sensor for my alarm system so for now it's not locked but it is connected to my alarm.

Looking into the Dynolock now... I would much rather have an electric lock the works with the remote I already have...

That won't work for people like me who have a hard tonneau that latches from underneath. If an electronic lock fails locked you have a big problem.

What a load of BS. Why would they have to have Toyota's blessing for their own after market product?

I smell a rat. I wonder if P & L has a deal cooking with Toyota? If so we will probably have to get the PL 5300 through Toyota for probably > $100.

Not good, not good at all... It's plastic, a little metal, maybe a sticker, if they started this last August, there is no way it's taking this long. And you gotta be kidding me if Toyota signs off on all aftermarket products, if Toyota's doing the approval they must be doing something in joint where it will be a Toyota Accessory and a Pop & Lock product.

Hey wait, maybe Toyota's new stimulus plan is to hire folks to go around stealing tailgates so you have to buy them again at $1000, kidding, just kidding...

Ok here are the list of explainations maureen has given throughout the timeline of the groupbuy:

2/27/2009: We can workout a deal to get free freight to the states on orders over $1500 if you wait until the PL5300 is released. MY estimate is early to mid april

3/25/2009: I'm glad to hear the group buy is a success. We are still expecting the PL5300 to be released in Mid april

4/01/2009 (I dug a little deeper and persistently asked for an explanation): Well many of our engineers are spread out through the states and they have submitted many many prototypes. Every time one came in we thoroughly tested them and graded them. Each graded prototype is sent back to the engineers to make the best possible product. We are still settling on the best design.

I can only hope your group buy folks are understanding. This is obviously Pop & Lock's fault and thus I feel they'll need to make up something to you for going on good faith and doing the group buy. Best of luck to you!
