Would like to know if it is a defect or not. I'll be patient, but would like to know for sure!

Its not you. Scared the crap out of me when I went to move into the right lane and thought the car behind me was too close. Then realized with a shoulder check I had plenty of room. Its odd but I am getting used to it. Starting to rely more.on the bubble mirror to gauge distance. its even more trying when hauling a 21ft trailer but bottom line is I have better visibility and with time I will know I have plenty of room but be sure to use the bubble mirror

My (main) issue is if I've passed someone & I'm relying on THAT mirror to judge my distance (especially pulling a trailer), I shouldn't have to guess or calculate that I have room to move over! If I'm already 2-3 car lengths ahead of the vehicle I've passed, & the guy behind me (who I cannot see) gets impatient & passes me on the right, there is a chance I wont see him until too late!

IF this is "normal" for this type of mirror them I need to be educated.

I do have pictures & will post them as soon as I can

Right there with you. I really love the mirrors, but the passenger mirror messes with me. Definitely too much magnification...not sure the purpose of it, but these would be PERFECT if it wasn't for that one issue. I'm living with it though :)

Installed mirrors on an 05 X-Runner/access cab, not a common configuration, but the view great. Now for the pictures.

While there are plenty of pictures of the mirrors actually on the truck, there aren't any actually looking through the mirrors. Here is a pictures of the passenger mirror from the drivers view, and the passenger mirror from outside the truck. While the truck is at an angle, I can see the tarmac and blue truck.

    Judging Distance

As towing mirrors, it appears that the glass has a bit of a zoom to it. If I had to estimate the zoom the glass magnifies to about the location of where my invisible trailer  might sit.

To see for yourself, look at the green van in the mirror ...

    B5D696A9-E460-48F4-AA35-DFF187928134_zps_bbab46d2d7b6232463d523ea9c0e6d05f88e5af9.jpg

The green van shows up fairly close, but in the blind spot mirror you can judge the distance and car lengths of how far the zoom goes.

Looking behind me at the green van shows:

    I hope this helps.

Redhatnick". In your picture, if the black Toyota pulls up just a small bit, not only will it be in your blind spot (looking back over your right shoulder), but it will also be TOTALLY invisible in the right hand mirror and ALL you will see is the green van if your lucky! This is where I'm having an issue with this.

In my pictures below, the neighbors "doll house" is about 50 yards away. Notice in the Left mirror it looks accurate. But in the Right mirror, it's magnified almost TWICE the size! That is not good! In a "normal" right mirror, it would be about HALF the size of the way it appears in the other two mirrors. (I tried to upload them bigger but couldn't figure out how!) :(

By it "zooming" in like it does, it leaves out a lot of peripheral area that is critical for safe driving. Of course, I may still need to simply get used to it, but I'm not so sure....

So I'm planning on installing mine tomorrow so I'll be ready to tow my camper next weekend.
I haven't acquired the components for heat yet so that will have to wait.
However, in anticipation of that, I noticed that the heat wires end in a connector. Will I need to cut this off or can I find the mate to that connector somewhere?

Oops - should have looked deeper in the box before writing this.

I zipped tied mine to the power mirror wire. That way it staying close by for when i decide to heat my mirrors too! You could use electrical tape also.

he can definitely have more than one truck. LOL Mods are at $10084 and going ...
It appears that the relay needed to activate the side mirrors LED turn signal on a 2014 Tacoma is:

    Part # - 81980-02030 - Flasher A

It is located in the relay/fuse box inside the cabin on the driver side. I am not 100% certain but after few good hours spent on the phone and in a dealership I believe I am getting closer. Can anyone confirm my findings from previous experience? Thank you.

I have a 2014 with power mirrors, if I purchased the led do I have to add any wires?

The 2014's are already prewired for the mirror turn signal, but you need another relay in the fuse/relay box located inside the cabin on the driver's side to activate the signals. You do not need to run wires unless you decide to use the heating function. My side mirror turn signals are not functional yet because I am still waiting for the relay I believe will activate them, although I am not 100% sure that I purchased the correct part. Nobody seems to know exactly what the part is and where it goes so I decided to try something my own research led me to. Regardless of the outcome I will post the results.

I was going to install my mirrors this weekend. They were delivered Tuesday! However, the wife bought me a new remote starter for Father's Day, arranged the install and included the mirrors! They look great and I didn't have to do it! I may have to investigate later, but for now, I love it all! Mirrors and remote start! Thanks rob! Really happy with the mirrors!

I also have a 2014. The turn signal wires are there, but the LEDs signals on the mirrors don't work. I hope we can figure out what is missing or needs changing to get them to work. Hey SolarNut, please keep us posted with your findings using that relay you ordered.

Apart from that, the mirrors are awesome. Great visibility and with the nice write-ups by Benson X and bgreenley I wired the heat with a sharp-looking, OEM-style switch in one of the blanks under the AC control.

Picked up a pair of the ProEFX mirrors from OP, Rob. These mirror are a quality product and in my opinion, a true upgrade from stock. Very easy to install. I had both on the truck in just under an hour. Looks great, works great. Can't wait to hook up to the travel trailer next week for their trial run. Thanks again Rob!!!!!

Got mine installed last week, except for the heat - need to order parts for that. Took less than an hour. Would have been about 15 minutes per side except for a couple visits from Mr Murphy-- one of the little plastic clips that holds the triangular plastic cover wouldn't stay put so I had to keep fishing it out with tweezers. Also had to do some searching when the pop-rivet type clip went flying.
Definitely has more shake than the stock mirror, but I guess that's to be expected as it hangs out substantially further. Can even see it shake a bit when sitting idling. Not as bad as the aftermarket mirror I put on the wife's Rav4, (which is probably why I'm sensitive to the issue). Also 10x better than the shake from the clamp-on tow mirrors.

Got a good chance to try it out this weekend. Took the camper about 250 miles each way to a country music festival in NY. Very happy with the mirrors. While the shake is noticeable, it didn't affect my ability to see, and I was able to ignore it after a while.

I didn't have a problem with the passenger mirror being flat instead of curved, though I was making an effort to pay extra attention to the convex spot mirror and double checking before making lane changes.
Using curved glass there might be better, as that's what people are accustomed to these days, but I learned to drive on my dad's '65 F100 with a big flat mirror and clamp on convex spot.
    Overall, glad I got them.
