    Hi guys,

Mike here. I'm new to this forum and I'm just wondering how does buying items work on this forum? How can I trust the seller? How do I pay the seller etc? How is the order confirmed??

    thanks!

Use Paypal. The majority of people on here are good people.

Welcome to TW! Its best to go thru a site, like PayPal, for purchasing/selling, as this protects both parties. As for who to trust, research their posts, and talk to others who may have dealt with the member in question.

^^ This. I have purchased from several good people on this forum and never had an issue. Paypal is also good for a little peace of mind.

In my years on various forums, and having only been screwed once for a paracord bracelet and $10...My method is to deal as much as possible in person, but if shipping is a necessity, buy from well known established members who have met and built relationships with other members.

Thanks for the responses guys! Very informative and truly appreciate it! Okay so i want to buy an item off a person and if the person does suggest Paypal, you pay him first then he sends kind of like a unilateral contract? When I give the seller my address for shipment, should I ask the seller for his address as well?

Sorry for the annoying questions; I'm just trying to ensure my own security in case it is a scam!

Okay guys I just figured out paypal a bit. So i can use the function: "Pay for Good's or Services" and it says i get protection from it and gives the seller my address for shipment as well. What happens if the guy doesn't send me the item though using that function though?

Since I have joined this forum I have bought and sold with 7 TW members and have not had an issue either but I do prefer to transact in person. If not, PayPal is my preferred method - after thorough research of the seller's previous posts.

If things have gone south in the purchase and make sure this is the case, then you can dispute it with PayPal. But you only have a certain amount of time to do so. The key is to buy from trusted members only. Do some research.

Sometimes it is a risk on TW, from individuals and vendors, but PayPal can sometimes help if you don't wait too long to file a claim and have sent the money for the purchase of goods (not gifts).

There are several vendors and sellers that have scammed TW members recently, so do your research and be careful: TopGuns, X moked U, Timicha, Adub4real, and Thepre.

Thanks for the advice guys! Okay yeah one guy was selling an item and he asked to be paid by gift and only has one post on the forum which is the sale itself...sounded fishy but luckily I didn't take any action yet. He has yet to respond back to my pm's so he is probably a scammer.

If you pay as gift it saves the seller any fees incurred. It also implies that you know the person and trust them. So, there is NO protection. You would be better off paying a couple extra bucks to cover the fees.

Okay so I just paid a seller "For goods". It says that I have paypal protection but there is no fee on me. Did I do the right thing? How long does the sellers usually take to ship out once they have received payment? It could just be my paranoia but I keep bugging the seller lol.

The fee is charged to the seller. In order for you to cover the sellers fees you need to increase the payment slightly to offset the cost.

The speed of shipment all depends on seller. I have almost always had items shipped by the end of the next business day when I sold them, but I would give it a few days. Unless you are buying from a vendor, most everyone on here has a job and possibly family and other things going on that may keep them from getting a package out as quickly as you like. My advice is to give the seller the chance to earn your trust before you get all nervous. You are covered by buyer protection. Just request a tracking number for the item.

If for some reason you do not receive the item, you can try to work it out with the seller. In the case that a resolution cannot be had, you can file a PayPal dispute. The seller would then need proof (i. e. tracking number) showing that you received the package.
