I have a 2005 Tacoma 4.0L 6spd with the TRD Off Road package and I would like to be able to lock up the rear end in 4H and 2H instead of 4L. Ive heard of mods for the older Tacomas but havent found anything for the newers ones. If it is possible to lock it up out of 4L would it not damage the rear end?

I saw the mod but it seemed kind of complicated and I didnt really like how much cutting you have to do to the wires or the fact you could engage it at any speed. Is the any other ways to go about doing it?

You can do a lot of things with your Tacoma, but that doesn't mean you should... Here is the sticker that is on the driver's door that says what the rear locker should be used for and the max. speed when using it:

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
5 mph is a limit when to operate (as in engage or disengage) locker) Reason for that is when locker tries to engage a sleve with splines needs to slide over the collar, also with splines. Too much speed and those splines can be bend if they are not fully seated. So hence the limit. Once splines are fully locked in place you can go as fast as you want. it makes no difference to locker anymore.
Hence why some people bend those splines because they are engaging locker while spinning tires madly. :D

Just do the relay mod and get the DC relay and not the AC one, took me about 2 hours. If you do the switch I believe it won't turn off your ABS which you want to do.
