Hey, so i read thru this thread a bit and am trying to figure out if I should look into replacing my springs because the ones mentioned in the TSB are not adequate for towing or loading down the truck?

*Edit...what i'm asking is, are the springs mentioned in the TSB inadequate? or do they have an issue with failures?

    Hello all, new member here.
When I got the recall notice for rear leafs, I went to my local dealer and he said no remedy was coming, and he didn't expect one any time soon. So I went with an AAL kit, and upgraded shocks. Made a huge difference in the ride (old would bottom out, with no load). Then I got another recall notice with a remedy (replace leafs), so I took it back to the dealer but he said since I've 'modded' the suspension, they couldn't touch it, and if they replaced the leafs, he couldn't put the AAL kit back on. I submitted a claim to Toyota, but of course was denied twice.
    Nice site.

I have 05, I went with local members leaf spring upgrade (4WD) 3-4 years ago. Been awesome ever since.

Ea time I take my truck in for service, I'd be asked if I'm ready for the tsb leaf upgrade. I'd always say nope, happy with me setup.

    No, leave it alone.

So last week, at 215k miles, I gave them same old answer, no don't change leaf pack. I Left truck there for oil change. I get a call from dealer saying rear brakes are down to 1mm. I approved the service for brakes.

I go pick up my truck end of day. Paid, left. Sunday I opened shell to load my truck, surprise there's my old leafs in back. They changed them, pissed me off. Went back to dealer Monday before work, told them I'm not happy about them doing this without my approval, my upgraded old leaf pack had a slight lift, now rear sags. Told guy I'd be back end of week for them to put my old ones back on. He wasn't sure what he can do. We'll see what happens.

Those new springs were too soft, no arc at all. Each turn I could feel the back end squat.

Dealer took care of everything today. Old OMD springs back on. Big difference, so much more responsive. No hassles at all at dealer!

Long lost old thread. I have a 2011 with 3 leaf springs. I'm thinking of doing the AAL. Thoughts? Will it look good? I have a 1" spacer in the front that caused the front to sit 1/4" higher.
