I just heard from the former owner of my 'new' used 2000 SR5 4x4 about the defective frame recall. I live in RI, and the truck had previously been driven for a few years in Vermont (salted roads).

Anyone have any experience with this process - I am going to take it to the dealer to get it looked at ASAP.

Thanks for your help, I love this truck....but I guess $15k towards a newer Tacoma wouldn't hurt!

Left a message with Valenti in 'Westahly'...I don't really know what to think...happy about MAYBE getting $15,000.00 - or upset at the fact that my truck might be defective.

I guess I'll find out soon. I'll keep everyone updated.

Kind of pissed, just ordered a new system (speakers, headunit) from Crutchfield - hasn't arrived yet. Luckily they are good with returns (again, I need to know for sure if it's defective) before I start my 'new truck' planning.

Anyone have the tricky E-Brake problem (sensor gets triggered lighting up the cluster indicator)?

Jeverich. They are offering 150% of Kelly blue book value in excellent contition no matter what condition the truck is in if the frame is bad. They also are offering a 1000 rebate if you decide to buy a new Toyota truck, or a 500 rebate if you decide on a car. When I went in, they pretty much told me my truck was unsafe and gave me a RAV 4 to drive - no charge - while I go through the process. My truck was a 97 extra cab V-6 4X4 with almost 180000 miles. I was offered 11000 on the buyback.
    Good Luck

Recall applies to 95.5 -2000 only so far. They are saying the problem was fixed in 2001.

Drove up to Balise today...the mechanic who looked at the frame said that he couldn't see any rot that went through to the frame. However, a rep. from Toyota is going to look at it as well - Balise is going to call me to schedule a second appt.
