Nice work! Dude......I just ordered the aluminum mesh. I am stoked. I have a FJ-40 Landcruiser grill emblem coming. I will post the finished product. Very nice work! BTW the blue dash led's are coming too.

 

how does one of those grillecraft grilles look without being satoshi'd.
can you still mount lights behind the grille without doing it satoshi style?

Sooo after hours of relentless sanding, cutting the 'puzzle' piece to fit the "W" shape that was left over, a bunch of lock tight glue, bongo, sand x 1,000,000, then sand x 1,000,000 times again. Keep in mind gentlemen, this is NOT a sport, so I sanded a lot more than you did-that is to say if your grill was bling chrome.

For whatever reason I couldn't get the "puzzle" piece to fit exactly, so I made sure that all gaps were filled with the lock tight glue, and although there was some minimal over flow it didn't matter after some hardcore sanding for hours on end. I started out by hand and surrendered the job to the jitter bug as my hands started creating waves. If you are considering this project, I HIGHLY recommend a sanding machine like so...
I attempted to color match and taped everything off, bought a 040 color matched 12oz can from ebay (iMatch). Started off by priming, sanding, priming, basecoat, then clear coat. Well, it didn't turn out so hot as the color was slightly yellow, and I couldn't seem to get a smooth glossy finish. I then realized like a retard that I shoulda used an adhesive prior to laying down the primer... so I sanded ALL my work off and gave it to a shop to paint.

If you didn't notice, I relocated the horns and sprayed the radiator black, I also traded hoods with a member last sunday

yeah, it does take a while to do, but that's why it's so rewarding once you're done

I am doing mine right now. Just did the epoxy. Sprayed the "cage" low gloss black. I got enough left over to do the bumper and side triangles too.
As soon as I git er done I'll post a photo.

 

Thanks to this thread I am able to completed Satoshi mod on my truck.







For mounting I used plastic wall anchors, #6 3/4 in wood screws and plastic Epoxy to glue the anchors. All items bought from home depot.


And used glue gun to mount the TOYOTA emblem:

hey ive read through this forum and i am extremely impressed. great write up an everyone has done a great job making their own. im currently working on making a grille right now. for the epoxy...can i just use any 2 part plastic epoxy i can get from lowes/home depot. i am unable to find the suremix type here in my area. thanks in advance

 

Yeah, That's where mine came from.

It's name was "5 Minute Epoxy", of all things.

thank you very much. i wasnt sure if itd be strong enough to fill the two gaps on each side of the grille with when i put the pieces of plastic in them. thanks for all your help
