Long bed for sure. More utility room and truck looks more proportional aswell.

I do own a short bed though, I just wish they offered LB DC with 6spd.

I was SOLD on the short bed in the months before I actually purchased my truck... when I got to the dealer for some reason I was just taken by the LB. Either way... you win!

lB ftw. I fit like 5-6 people w/ a cooler just lounging on my bed watching the 4th of july fireworks. You can't do that on a SB even with an extender.

I think the short bed looks better and handles better from my test drives, the long bed doesn't look proportional to me unless its lifted (even then its oftly narrow for that kind of length), it looks good lifted then but for me personally if I needed more room I'd get a bigger truck all together.

Also the short bed has a slightly higher payload capacity, weighs slightly less, gets better offroad angles, and a shorter turning diameter. This is a "compact" truck afterall and the long bed makes it bigger than an f-150.

The short bed is close to 7 feet long with the tail gate down...plenty of room for most anyone to lay down.

Also to the guy who asked if a 6 foot tall man could sleep in the short bed with the tail gate closed the answer is yes because the short bed has nearly 7 feet of diagonal space :p Which also happens to be enough space for me to close the tail gate on my trail bike.

    secret stuff.
I like how the longbed rides smoother. The SR5 shortbed rode nice, but prefer the sport seats. The shortbed TRD Off-Road was a noticably stiffer ride as expected. Wish they had a longbed TRD Off-Road, would consider this the best of both worlds...

Comparing the short beds I found the TRD Offroad to have a noticably smoother (ie more cloud like) ride than the TRD Sport. The Offroad was smoother/softer over little stuff/highway but firmer over larger bumps, and a hair more 'bouncy' with a hair more body lean. The TRD Sport felt harsher just driving around but softer over bigger bumps. The Offroad felt more comfortable to me.

I guess the offroad also has more tire and less wheel which will also normally make the ride smoother.

This goes against some things I've read online but I drove them back to back a two different dealers and myself and the passenger felt that way.

It'd make sense too because the offroad has progressive springs and the sport has linear springs. Progressive almost always gives a smoother ride unless the linear springs are very very soft.

Offroad - smoother yet firmer (progressive)
Sport - harsher yet softer (linear)

When I tried the Sport long beds (yes I've went around alot before I made up my mind :p, big purchase for me) they did seem maybe a hair smoother/softer and I guess the weight ratio has to be different on them with more weight on the front wheels since the rear wheels are further back and the weight would smooth out the little stuff, but idk I didn't drive them back 2 back.

a foot isnt gonna make a bit of difference when loading it up. I got a 5 footer just because its easier to manuever, park, etc. I work in the city a lot so anything with a shorter wheel base will give me an advantage. I was in an underground parking garage the other day and I was barely making the turn down the ramp with my truck. I doubt the long bed would have made it. And for offroading, you cant tell me that an extra foot wont make a difference when going around tight trails  I had a hard enough time with mine and I was wall to wall around some turns. Also, what the heck are you all carrying that you cant fit it in a 5 foot bed? I carry all my stuff just fine. anytime I need some extra room i put the rear seats down. or for long stuff, i just use my roof rack setup like I posted earlier: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/12674-short-box-vs-long-box-12.html#post525571

Short bed, Fit's plenty with an extender, Sportz III Truck tent is even great for me and I'm 6' 3". Looks fantastic, easier to park, doesn't look like a farmer owns it...

For how much furniture I haul every week, with my wifes re-decorating habits, I would downgrade at all. Almost every piece of furniture we've bought fits in the long bed, but would have NEVER fit in the short bed.

Any driver coming from a full size is already taking a hit driving a long bed tacoma. :)

I never really thought about it until the other day when i noticed a taco and couldent figure out what looked off to me, then i realized it was a short box. Personally i like the long box.
