    what are you using

    Pros and Cons

    Price and location of purchase..

I need to be able to use the full Bed so the Pace edwards are out.. :(
as well as the Hard shell because i need to be able to use it at anytime and not make a trip home first to remove it...

I am leaning towards either the

    Extang RT
    or
Access Larado (or Vanish if it becomes availible)

    Extang RT Below...

You can remove this hard cover to haul a load, fold it in half and take it with you.

Pros: Easily removable and folds in three sections for small loads. Rails remain functional.

Cons: None yet. Have had it for about 3 months and extremely happy still.

    Before:

    BakFlip.
pros: hard folding cover, each panel latches, folds up against the back window for full bed access
cons: doesn't lock the tailgate, leaked, rusted, struts failed, foam tape fell apart, weather stripping cracked, rivets pulled out, factory rails covered, fits between the rails so many things didn't fit when closed

    After that fell apart:

    Bestop Supertop

Pros: damn near water tight, twice the cargo capacity, factory rails accessible, could camp in it, windows removable for dogs, rear window rolls up or removes for long items, folds against cab for tall items, place to hang out when it rains
cons: not lockable, fabric that can be cut, windows must be removed and stored to fold, back window collects dirt like a hatchback

Both cost between $550 and $600. I paid less than $600 for each, but forget the price. I googled both until I found the lowest price. The BakFlip was at an introductory/sale price and went up after I bought it.

Not really. More or less the same before a cover, with the hard tonneau cover, and with the canopy. The BakFlip went on within a month or two so I never really noticed if the truck got better mileage without it once it was broken in. However, when the BakFlip broke and was removed I didn't notice any change. I had at least 1 full tank between covers, and I still get between 17 and 18mpg.

I got an Undercover tonneau (installed it was $648) and I HAVE noticed a bump in my gas mileage. Before I was getting around 21.5 - 22 on the highway - last tank was 23.7 highway. I've only got 4K on the truck so far - so I'm hoping that improves as the engine gets broken in.

I think the prerunner should be getting just over 20mpg anyway, so it could just be the truck getting broken in. You won't really know because you put it on before the truck was broken in. (Forget the 500 miles the manual says... It doesn't really settle down and smooth out until at least 5,000 miles.)

Just bought a Rugged Trail Tri-fold off eBay for $199 plus $45 S&H. Extremely fast drop ship from the manufacturer...4 days.

Installed it today and love it...you've still got full control of rails. I can post pics later.
