Skate Creek & High Rock (part 1)

My friend Mark (Raisin) and I went out exploring on Saturday afternoon. Went out towards Mt Rainier Nat Park to see how high up we could get. Unfortunately, the snow pack is huge this year so we weren't expecting a whole lot.

For those keeping track, we took Highway 7 south to Elbe and then cut over to Ashford. Near the park entrance we turned south on FS52, Skate Creek Road. Here are some pics from the day.




We had decided that we were going to break the cherry on my XRC8 this day (finally), so the Raisin was kind enough to get stuck axle deep in our first obstacle of the day.



Hey, at least it was a Tacoma that took it.



Found what we thought was going to be another little spur that probably wouldn't go very far. Turned out to be a very interesting 2-track.

Joyride anyone??



Stopped to take in the views. On a clear day, the view of Mt Rainier would be incredible. Oh well, maybe next time.





This was cool. Up to around 3500' and still no snow (so far).




The first challenge (well sort of). It's been a long winter.
