How many folks have had this happen with their truck? I count OP and OP's buddy and one other guy in this thread has had a similar issue. Anybody else had this happen?

    That’s it. Thanks

    I personally haven’t experience it.

Looks like really steep does the trick.

In my experience burning oil comes out bluish but with the emission controls on these trucks...

I’m sure if we could smell the smoke it’d more obvious.

Two sets of catalytic converters does change the color. Our 2010 GMC Terrain was burning 1qt of oil every 1k miles and I never even saw it smoke. Subarus are known for ringland failures which present as a solid puff of smoke on startup. On catless cars it's the usual blue/grey smoke. On stock catted cars it's barely a puff of anything, but it's white...and that's on cold cats.

This is likely a pretty large amount of oil in comparison. All signs point to the driver's side rear valve breather that leads right to the intake manifold. enough incline, oil pools in the rear of the head, gets sucked up into the intake manifold and dumps into cylinders.

Those whom have had this occur, you should replace your spark plugs because for one they are likely fouled up something fierce. For two, that would confirm oil.

edit: nvm looks like OP already did and confirmed as much.

The solution in my eyes is to install an AOS (air oil separator) as a bypass on the line that goes from the head to the intake manifold.

A catch can would just fill up with oil and do the same thing over time. An air oil separator would allow the crank case pressure to be relieved while separating the oil and having it flow back into the engine.

Does the owners manual state maximum degree these trucks can drive up/down?

On the Nissan RB26 we install a rear head oil drain, because on hard accelerations oil pools up in the head and doesnt return down in the pan fast enough.

I remember watching a top gear episode about them climbing a super steep damn face, and they had to build a swaying mount system for the engine, so it can always be oriented upwards because of a similar issue.

This is an ingenious solution that Subaru owners have. Takes the place of your oil cap. Something similar adapted to ours would only need an inlet and an outlet I would assume. Breather line from head goes to inlet, outlet goes to intake manifold. Oil dumps back into head if there is blowby or an extreme angle.

It’s been a while guys. Life has been crazy.

The second trip to Toyota did not yield any different results. They put it on the computer and said it all looked good. Blah blah blah. It’s documented 2x now so I guess that’s all I can do with that.

I’m going to look into some of these ideas in here.

I am pretty sure this is going to be a 3rd gen thing. I just hope we can come up with a fix.
