    What brand spark plugs do you use and why? I stopped by parts store and there seems to be a plethora of brands and prices. Some are priced at $19.99 a piece!!!! and some at $2.99. What do you buy? It always has been "use the cheapest" for my Jeep but that has 215K plus miles.

    Same as everybody else...
    I like to stick with OEM stuff with my Tacoma. I think it's safe to use either Denso or NGK, I prefer Denso as they appear to last a little longer than their NGKs. This is like "what's the best oil" or "what's the best tire" questions, you'll get all kinds of answers and opinions. If you like use the search function and you'll see what I mean. I get my Densos off of Amazon for less than 5 bucks a pop.

    Stick with Denso. I use copper, not sure if 3rd gen is different. Truck came with 3 denso and 3 NGK. The NGK's were well work at 35k. The Densos looked pretty good.

    Bed rug, ARE bed top, Weathertechs. Little goodies here and there!
    Denso coppers here. I beleive Iridium's would need hotter spark. Think there's another thread on here about how and everyone's idea of a correct plug.

    This is one of the few items where buying them from the dealer may be cheaper. My local dealer who normally sells at list pricing was actually cheaper than the auto store.

    I recently installed Denso iridium plugs and will likely remove them and take the loss. My truck feels like it has less power now. Noticeably less power. Yeah it still burns the tires off the line but I can tell the difference. SO I will get Denso K20HR-U11 instead.

    Rock Auto has the Denso K20HR-U11 for $2.87 a piece. I use these because they are factory recommended. They should also be changed every 30k miles but with personal experience, I know these copper plugs will last at least 6 times longer than that. From my understanding, the iridium plugs should only be used with the 4.0 V6 if you have a supercharger. The 4 cylinder also uses the iridium plugs.

    Today, I re-gapped my NGK Iridiums - LFR6AIX-11. Installed them at 60K and will replace at 160K with same. They were fine when I checked them around 100K. Today, I re-gapped from .050 to .043. Engine running fine with them. When removing left rear plugs, noticed PVC hose was cracked; so, replaced it. Will replace PVC valve when I replace plugs.

    This question/ discussion comes up quite frequently.

    1. If you go with Toyota OEM copper tipped plugs (or pick them yourself at an Autozone), those will be adequate to keep the engine at its proper spec. They will need replaced every 30,000 miles as per the maintenance schedule.

    2. If you go with Denso or NGK Iridium tipped plugs, those will be adequate to keep the engine at its proper spec. No improvement whatsoever to engine performance or fuel economy. They will need replaced every 100,000. This is derived and generally acceptable based off the maintenance schedule prescribed to those running the TRD (Magnuson) Supercharger kit.
