It has an electronic LSD (AutoLSD).

I pulled off the sway bar and was extremely pleased both on road and off.

OK, so then what is the locker as opposed to the auto LSD?

The OR locker is a physical locker that is electronically actuated (similar to an air locker). AutoLSD is a strong TRAC (traction control) function that uses the rear ABS to function as an LSD. The owners manual is not good about explaining all of the functions and capabilities.

This sticky has a ton of great info:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/3rd-gen-traction-control-modes-explained.530695/

    This post shows the AutoLSD:

Me - truck was cattywampus in big rocks and could not get enough traction engaged the locker and pulled right out. That said I probably could've rocked my way out.

There are some in the TRAC sticky and the earlier thread about 3rd Gen TRAC functions:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/a-trac-in-4lo-on-all-2016-4x4-models-non-trd-offroad.437814/

Here's a good post and video:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...l-modes-explained.530695/page-3#post-17001891

The SR / SR5 / Sport / Limited have the same system. In that video, they were backing up to find good holes to test the TRAC functions.

Thanks guys very helpful. I'm gonna have to make my mind up soon as the dealer is looking for both a sport and off road to locate as we already negotiated on a price.

I've used mine 3 times to escape scary snowy mountain trails.

You know when you hit the gas and the rear starts sliding sideways toward the cliff, and the rest of the truck doesn't move

For me, choosing between MT and AT was way more important than OR versus Sport. If there was an OR AC MT in the US, then it would have just came down to whether a Sport or OR was available to buy.

Man, its funny. Those videos basically show anything I'd EVER do off roading-wise, and the sport does just fine. So maybe the OR guys here are really into serious off roading?

If you can, drive both with the transmission that you want. Other than that, I think it is splitting hairs. I have no regrets.

Exactly. I was in some stuff that was making me uncomfortable this last week but the truck didn't hesitate.

I think the one thing to remember is that TW is a very vocal bunch. Many of them do get into some serious crawling. For example:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/smoking-while-on-a-incline.511373/

That is not what I would use mine for, except in an emergency.

90% MTS - between Target & Walmart selections and if they have time Best Buy.... :crapstorm:. I have done that and a bit more in my stock sport and it does fine.

Honestly both are very capable for offroading. I perfer the looks of the sport and since i change the whole suspension when i lift it the only down fall or advantage an offroad really has is the locker. BUT the LSD in the sport is great and is better for on road driving (it’s actually useful). On top of that the LSD is great in snow and sand where 99% of my offroading is. If i ever need a true locker ill just toss and ARB in but i have not found a situation yet where the LSD has let me down

All new Tacoma's have Simulated Limited Slip, the last true mechanical limited slip in the Sport was back around 2008 or 2009.

Nah man, most people (myself included) don't do more than that. And that guy is running stock tires. Get some good ATs and you'll be set.
