Yes sir. I am wondering if there was other traction stuff still working behind the scenes tho. Seems like some systems work/dont work even if you have tried to turn off. I will ck manual.
Def maxtrax or whatever wouldve helped. Was not prepared for the weather. By the way, the off road wranglers... not so good for grip in snow/ice. Wondering if the Sport street tires wouldve been better. I was really surprised at bad the grip was

That's precisely where a locker would have saved the day, so to speak. Open diff = power to the wheel with the least amout of traction, which is exactly what it sounds like happened here. Locked would have forced both to spin equally.

If it has the auto lsd, that should have provided some power to the other wheel.

This is by far the hardest recovery I have been a part of. Me and a friend were waaaay out in the backwoods, just as we decided we were a little too far on a sketchy road he decided to flip around and it didn't end well. I don't care to calculate what his rig weighs with that camper fully loaded with a weeks supply of water and fuel, not to mention the steel trailer with the side by side he was towing around. Needless to say it sank instantly to frame, it was about 5pm when it happened so we setup camp and decided to start digout in AM. That night on top of that mountain was the gnarliest thunder storm I haver ever been in, wish I captured some footage of it but there was lightning striking all around us, literally to the point where it hurt your ears and the strikes lit up the ground around us... as well as a good downpour of rain.

The next morning my 13k winch wasn't doing anything but dragging my truck closer to him, and in NV we don't always have the luxury of a good anchor point.

Maybe some of you have experience in scenarios like this where it takes 4-5 hours of digging / stacking / working / rigging and your attempt fails. Well in this case we were determined to avoid that scenario, so we took an extra 4 or 5 hours to make sure ALL of the bases were covered.

About 10 hours of digging / jacking / stacking, as well as using some wood to build a crude "bridge" back to the road, and we got out.

We rejoiced with many beers. A memory I will undoubtedly never forget, As the saying goes Adversity introduces a man to himself (or something like that)

Only pics I have and this is just before our successful extraction

EDIT, shit just looked at thread title. I guess this isn't a stuck tacoma.. well I was there and wasn't leaving him behind so...

it's really easy when your offroading to end up with one or two wheels higher off the ground than the other, and when that happens with an open diff....no traction.

Yes the auto LSD should have some effect and I'm sure it does help to a degree, but depending on how stuck you are and under what circumstances I think it will only do so much. LSDs are ideal for better street traction

Obviously not being there, I can't make any comments. However, from the pictures it looks like someone chose a terrible line!

Did the bumper flex up under the panel, or does that panel overhang the bumper on the regular? What bumper is that?
