Ok... been doing research on subwoofer options for my new 2020 DCSB. I don’t want obnoxious bass that you can hear from 1/2 mile away, I’m not 16 anymore... but I do love my music, and like it loud! Dual 10’s with about 600w of power would be ideal.

I’ve seen the JL Audio box as well as the Alpine box. Both made from the manufacture to be a direct fit into the rear storage tray. Reading specs and output on both, I don’t believe either will be (power wise) what I’m looking for.

So any ideas? And if you already have done something custom or know someone that has... let’s see some pics!!

    Thanks guys- Mike

Is the Alpine unit using the PWE-S8 sub? I’ve had it for a few years now and am not pleased with it. I can’t seem to get it EQ’d to a level that I like. It’s either nonexistent or poppy sounding. Neither of which is a good look.

I’m waiting for the JL Stealthbox to come off backorder. I know there are other options which might be better/cheaper but I like how it retains all of the factory seat plastics.

Yes, the Alpine uses a thin 8” sub... and the JL Audio set up uses a slim 10” sub.

I did find this pic of what someone did with the under seat storage bins. This I like!

Hmmm, sounds to me like you do want obnoxious bass, lol! I am in my 60's, so anything I say regarding sound probably has no gravitas. The biggest improvement in sound for me came by sound deadening and sound proofing the doors, back wall, and floorboards. I also have a small 6x8" Infinity Basslink Mini with 100watts and find it provides me with more than adequate clean bass that fills in nicely with my kicker speaker system. It may seem rather pathetic to many of you out there, but it works for me and I also really like that I retain most of my cubby space behind the seat. Definitely not obnoxious, lol!

I have a 10" Image Dynamic behind my passenger rear seat. Feeding it 600 or 700w RMS.

If you're looking for compact all-in ones, get one that has 200RMS. Cerwin Vega VPAS10 is decent and is what I have installed in my Tacoma. It's got plenty of boom for the factory speakers (I did upgrade the tweeters). Also, the Infinity Basslink DC is another 200RMS all-in-one. It's bigger and provides lower frequencies. Another one that falls in the same category is the Rockville RW10CA. If you're looking for more umph... looking at those JL stealth boxes with a high powered amp will probably give you more bass than you'll know what to do with. The all-in ones work fine for me as I just wanted a more thud from the audio. Both the Cerwin Vega VPAS10 and the Infinity Basslink worked fine for my needs.

I asssume you're talking about my setup. I don't have any videos or photos, sorry.

    Current setup is:
Alpine KTP-445U Universal Power Pack class-D amp behind factory headhead unit
    JLAudio C1-690 6×9″ 2-way (fronts)
    JLAudio C1-650x 6.5″ 2-way (rears)
    Kenwood KSC-PSW8 powered sub.

As for the install process it's pretty standard, there are a few how-to's available here and on Youtube.

The rears don't sound as clear as the fronts, I think the headunit's sound processor muffles the sound a little bit in the rear.
And only reason I chose Alpine over Kicker amp is price and availability (I'm in Canada). It doesn't have a built-in sound processor like Kicker but rest of specs are similar.

Overall I like my setup, highs are loud and clear and there's enough bass to shake the mirrors. I cut all bass in fronts (amp's high pass crossover) so there's minimum distortion at high volume. The rears and sub cover the mid/low bass and I can adjust bass on the fly depending on the music I'm listening.
