It’s definitely not perfect but the vast majority of the time it works really well. Imo way worth it rather than trying to connect the cord every time. The phone stays in my pocket and I don’t need to mess with it. For me I just won’t bother even connecting it if it’s not wireless. At one point it was starting to act a little sketchy and not connecting as consistently but I just did an update which they show you have to do on the site. Really easy and that fixed everything really well. Anyone else have advice on how to improve connectivity?

    Pair with this:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/2020-tacoma-media-port-relocation.648547/

Could do it in glovebox or center console.

I have iphones now but that's because work, my personal choice is android so I'd have to get one of each for like 250 bucks. For that much I'd spend a few more bucks and get a new HU and do it natively instead. Looks like there isn't an adapter that does it for both platforms, and they're like 120 bucks. I just use bluetooth a-okay, I don't use sat nav enough to justify spending that for the wireless conversion.

I've pre-ordered the CarDongle https://cardongle.co in hopes it works like or better than Carplay2air. To clean up the front connection, I bought a "Latest Car USB cable Adapter Connector Audio cable INPUT to Media CD player for new Toyota Camry, Toyota Avalon Latest Corolla" from AliExpress for $10.23.

    USB Cable.jpg

I disconnected the plug from the back of the OEM head unit and plugged in this cable. There is a USB connector on the other end. You can plug the Carplay2air or this CarDongle into the USB plug and hide it behind the head unit or route it down by the drivers side plastic and tuck it just behind it so you can get to it easily if you need to. You could also run it back under the arm rest storage console which is what I'll probably end up doing when the CarDongle arrives. If you do this you can no longer use the original USB plug under the ac controls because it is now disconnected. I currently use this cable to connect my cell phone up for wired Android Auto.

Because the CarDongle was a kickstart, no telling how good it will work, but I'm expecting it to arrive in the next two months.

Will this work on a pre 2020 head unit?

This is great. I want to get a new Tacoma possibly this year and I was worried because there are rumors saying Apple is going to remove the port on the iPhone soon. I know it’s just rumors, but I want to be ready.

Did you ever get an answer to this?

Edit: Asked Beat Sonic customer service. The Beat Sonic interface does not work with the CPLAY2Air interface.

    :spy:

The white one was on sale on Amazon for 100. Grabbed one. Just set it up. Painless setup. Works great, easy to switch to other phone. I have personal and work iPhone. On the phone just connect to it on Bluetooth and it swaps to the other phone.

I use my work phone for longer drives - unlimited data for sat nav and music streaming. I use my personal phone day to day with downloaded music and don’t use it for nav to get to and from work.

haven’t “mounted” it yet. And will likely do the above linked and get it just in my center console and out of the way.

For those with wireless carplay adapters with Entune 3.0 HU. Does the Apple Carplay screen come up after it connects? TIA.

I wonder why I have to press "siri" steering wheel button, "phone' button or the "apple carplay". I've tried repairing, no dice.
I plugged it in my GF 4runner and works like it should. Could be because it's a transplant HU?

Mine is a transplant too. What wireless adapter do you have I have the 4.0 CarlinKit. Maybe a setting somewhere I seem to remember something like that with my OBDii dongle that I had to turn off so it didn't run automatically

    Mine is 3.0 Carlinkit.
I figured it out. When my phone is still connected in my home wifi, that’s when the CP screen won’t come up. I guess I’ll just press the button when I leave the house. It works as it should when I’m not connected on any wifi. I just tried it at work parking lot just now. thx man!
