I'm pissed!! Toyota refuses to cover my paint failure on my 2014 with 37,000 miles! The Senior Advocate told me that he TSB covering everything except a Tacoma is "merely a suggestion on how the dealership should address repairing the issue". This is BS since there are many instances online of people with their super white cars and a few trucks being fixed.

I have owned 7 Toyotas since 2006, I currently have 3 in my driveway. These may quite possibly be my last ones if this is how they don't stand behind their vehicles!

Attached is one side of the door that's peeling, the other side is too. The roof feels like 320 grit paper and the hood and tops of the fenders are flat! This is TOTAL BS!!!

I would also be furious. If I’m not mistaken white is the only single stage paint job. Have you tried calling corporate office?

Talk to another dealer and if that doesn't work call corporate. My uncle got his around town go-kart of a Scion repainted for free when the paint started peeling, not just flaking. Toyota has gotten really bad about refusing to acknowledge known problems with their vehicles.

Warranty is typically limited by time, mileage or parts covered.

Once beyond the limits, then the warranty is expired. Frankly, I understand the frustration, but I also understand Toyota's response. I don't think Toyota is "screwing us".

I have an '06 white truck. Its paint is beginning to degrade. So, I try to keep it clean and use good quality wax 2-3 times each year. I also try to keep it out of direct sun. I suspect, it will need a full paint job at some point.

When time to paint arrives, I will use a high quality 2K urethane paint system consisting of primer, paint and clear. Done at a body shop that handles high end work. Not Earl Schrieb or MAACO.

    Yeah.
Yeah, open a case with corporate. The more people that do that, the more likely they will add the Tacoma to the list of covered vehicles. Our 2015 Corolla is covered, but no problems so far.

FWIW, I got my 2009 headlights replaced outside of warranty before the TSB for the melting issue came out, but I had to open a case. Several months later they issued the TSB and extended warranty.

My spruce mica is starting to do that behind the door jamb on the passenger side and one spot under the hood but so far nothing outside those 2 spots, I'm hoping it stays that way.

This is a known issue with super white, since like 2005. I've seen a merely few get their trucks re painted on toyotas dime.

I’ve been to the dealer who is supposedly working on my behalf… doubtful, and corporate is who just gave me the thumbs down!

    I would be upset too.

But your truck IS 7 years old. Should it be happening, no, but its a ways past the warranty.

Call corporate if you were just talking to the dealer. They could be more helpful. Dealerships don't want to deal with these issues until they are forced to. Also try taking to a Toyota Collision center if one is close to you. They may know something or be easier to deal with.

TacomaMike... agreed that it is 7 years old, but this is an issue I've had for a few years and it just now started peeling. I only have 37,000 miles on it and I've already paid $800 once on my previous truck to fix this exact thing. Maybe I should have started complaining a few years ago when it started. I just kept looking at it thinking yeh, I can rub that out. The roof started first and of course that's the hardest part to work on so I just kept ignoring it.

Stevesnj... I have been to a Toyota Collision Center and notified Corporate. The dealer took pictures and looked it over, he was going to go back to Corporate.

UPDATE...they list 2 Toyota Collision Centers in my area, apparently the body shop at my dealership isn't a Toyota collision center although they do collision work???

I had a 2005 Toyota Tundra Limited that I purchased new. Within 14 months the paint was fading and dull. When it would rain hard I would have a white ring around the truck in the driveway. The grill and mirrors where clear coated and maintained a shine, the rest of the truck looked like chalk. Toyota gave me nothing but grief. They never did anything to address the issue. I have a new Tacoma now and still think Toyotas are a quality vehicle but they failed with white paint and they know it.

My experience: Local dealers won't do anything except check your VIN and say no.

Basically call Toyota, talk to a rep that will file documentation of the issue and hopefully if enough of us do it there will be an extension to the Tacoma. Do not get pissed at the first dumb dumb you talk to, ask for someone to discuss the issue more in depth with you.

I’ve been through corporate, 2 dealerships, and an official Toyota Collision Center. I’m told that my VIN is not on the list, so too bad!

One dealership has told be that he went through his area rep and it’s still under review. He seems to think that if they do anything, it would be to fix the peeled spots only.

2015 MGM grey. Bought 2 years ago. Do I win?
Roof, hood, both top window sills, and to top it off, the flat piece on the passenger window right near the bottom of the window all have fading clear coat.

I took it in, while concurrently calling Toyota corporate and making a case number hoping for an extended warranty announcement.

I got it as a 30k CPO in Jan 2019. Shit ain't right.
