So, summer time is coming around and that means a full-time decent paying job for this college student. I usually take care of projects or mods with some of what I earn over the summer.
One of the things I want is forced induction.
This thread isn't about which is better but instead about whether it is wise to install forced induction on an engine with almost 80k miles.

So, you mechanics, turbo gurus, speed demons, supercharger gurus........what say ye?

    Truck info:
    2011 4.0 4wd....with a bunch of aftermarket weight.

80,000 miles is not "old". Do a compression check and pick up a supercharger if you just have money to blow.

I put supercharger on 1999 3rz with 71k because boost.

At 80k your truck isn’t even broken in.

I put mine on at 70K. At 83k now, and just added more boost.

I turbo'ed my 2013 2.7L with 110k on it. I checked the compression, then just sent it!

Go turbo- because superchargers are gay in the mouth.
Plus, come hang out in the Turbo BS Thread and see all the other guys' boosted rides.

The reason I was leaning more to a supercharger was because of my front bumper/winch combo. There might be some fitment issues with the cooler and I didn't want to risk it. Anyone have an aftermarket bumper with winch?

    Yup.

With the SC I only had to relocate the coolant pump

I've done a mod or two
I put an SC on my 265k mile I4 and it has been fun at 6.5lbs. 80K is nothing, boost it up! Just beware nothing about the SC is a one and done modification. It will require work 'money" even after you put it on to get everything right.

    Lots.
I'd actually choose a low-cost index fund through Vanguard, but investing is the answer.

With the investing option, I would invest in mutual funds rather than CDs considering the interest rates on CDs are not great at the time. Will probably get more out of mutual.

Supercharger will absolutely NOT blow your engine up.
Take a poll from members that are running a supercharger.
Supercharger will run forever with Rebuilding every 150,000.
Once tuned in there is little to go wrong if you have a solid supercharger.
You can get an extra 100 hp with a few mods.

Reliability wise pick the supercharger and you will get 100,000 miles with no issues.

Supercharger you can install in 3 hours.

Turbo will be a project as there are no plug and play setups.

If you want more power turbo it.

My supercharger has 560,000 some miles on it original owner I am and as far as the motor goes
the 3.4 can handle the supercharger with no side effects so don’t worry about the miles you have.

An older 3.4 motor would be 500,000 miles not 80,000 miles, :)
    80,000 it’s just broken in
