Look back a few pages to the posts about unnecessary build threads that highlight Plastidip and removed running boards.

I wasn't gonna do a build thread, but I kept getting multiple PMs each week asking me details about my 4R. Got tired of responding over and over to same questions, so I gave in when I was about 90% done with the truck and created the build thread, only to discover it's a real pain in the butt to create a build thread in one evening for a 2 year off-road/overland project.

Just joined TW because I picked up a 2006 TRD Offroad doublecab 4x4 Taco. If I start a build thread for it, it will go slow...this will be another 2 year project. My concern is the quote above cuz my Taco project will start this weekend with plastidipping the front chrome and removing the nerf bars it came with.

I'm sure the Taco build will come together nicely. You have one of my favorite 4th gens.

No, thank YOU!!!! You're pulling ahead man! Good luck.

Not always true. See the T4ROTM contest for March '12. COB spanks Crozhawk, who happens to have one of the sickest SAC 4th gens I've ever seen.

Jediwebdude, I guess you didn't read my entire post, so I'll re-quote it for you below...

Lol not like I am bitching or anything. SAS is way cooler than my shit. Now what i think will be a battle is a full long travel 4runner vs SAS'd 4runner ;) all in due time

I fully agree with the first section of this statement that I bolded :D i started mine about the same way. But I didn't brag about my uncanny plastidipping skills. Just did and left it at that. I don't wanna backtrack on my build either. Granted I haven't done shit in a few months but there is a reason for that :D

Your's is a build I'm definitely looking forward to because I know it hasn't truly "begun" yet lol

    Ben has some plans...

Here's what the Taco looks like at the moment:
    IMG_2552c-1800px_ede2d5cf6d506f5dc3033088581afbe92fbd3835.jpg

Secured a set of 4 used TRD rims from an offroad buddy who took 'em off his FJC:
    DSCN3532_c2213be9056883c05caf65269777adc6c63974e7.jpg

Purchased the last rear Rocktek bumper in stock at TRDparts4U and will pick it up next week. The BFG Rugged Trail tires that it came with are worn to unsafe level. Will go up a size in tires and get better offroaders.

I like my Demello bumper. Jason said he's going to make an aluminum version of his Tacoma bumper, so will wait for that to come out. Only other thing I'm going to do on this is rock sliders and maybe swap out the suspension to get a 1" lift. This will be a light offroader as compared to my 4R.

It will be enough to teach my son how to offroad safely, while still being a nice daily driver that will get him through college.

One thing I am learning as I go through this forum this evening in search of what's out there for offroad armor, there are waaaay more options for the Tacoma than the 4th gen 4Runner. I knew that was the case for the FJC, but had no idea the Taco also gets lots of aftermarket love.
